DECEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER
Dec 15th – End of 2nd Grading Period
16th – 29th: Schools Closed: Winter Break
In November, the school counselors met with all 9th and 10th grade English classes to explore the Major Clarity platform and learn about occupations/careers. We encourage all students to use their Major Clarity accounts to explore careers, colleges, and micro credentials.
It’s hard to believe it’s December and that registration for next year is taking place. The school counselors have started meeting with all 9th and 10th graders thru H/PE classes and will meet with 11th graders in December to register for next year’s classes. Please take time to look at ParentVue or StudentVue, under course requests, to see the classes that the teachers have recommended for your child and the electives that were chosen during the meeting with the school counselor. If you have questions regarding recommendation for a core class, please contact the teacher. A copy of the registration calendar has been included with this newsletter.
Have a great December!

This is a reminder to students interested in applying to programs at the Burton Center next year: the application deadline is January 15.
For any students interested in the Center for Engineering, Mass Communication, Performing Arts or Visual Arts – it is recommended to apply before Winter Break because those programs have additional application requirements. To apply, visit the BCAT website: www.rcps.us/BCAT
CAREER QUEST- 10TH GRADE STUDENTS
Career Quest for all 10th grade students will be held on January 17 or 18th, 2024 at the Berglund Center. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about employment opportunities in the Roanoke Valley. Permission slips for this event will be distributed through the 10th grade English classes beginning on 1/3/2024. We encourage all 10th grade students to attend.
CSHS LIFE Counselor Mrs. Heck will be running small groups for students this winter on the topic of grief. If you have students who could benefit from support due to the loss of a loved one, please contact Mrs. Heck directly firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Cave Spring high school band has had some accolades this past month.
These students have been chosen to represent Cave Spring High School at the Virginia Tech Honor Band in January. This event brings around 500 musicians from across the east coast to this annual event. This is the first time this many students from Cave Spring have been chosen for this event.
Below is a poster of our Winter concerts. Please try to come out to a performance.
The event on December 14th will have refreshments after the concert.
The next PTSO meeting will be held on Monday, January 8 at 6 PM in the school library. All are welcome!
The After-prom meeting will follow the PTSO meeting on the 8th beginning at 7pm. Plan to join if you can help with this event. If you are unable to make the meeting and want to help, reach out to Amy Bradley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
