Watertown Middle School 2019-2020
Hello, Happy Sunday, and Happy Mother's Day! I hope this community bulletin finds you and your family, near and far, healthy and well. I hope you all are having a nice weekend, despite the snow yesterday.
On Friday, you should have received an email from me with the student login information for PowerSchool, so you may view your child's progress report in the form of Teacher Comments. If you have more than one child at the middle school, you should have received more than one email. If you did not, please email me and let me know. We would like to know that everyone was able to view the progress reports, as well as get some feedback on the process. If you would take a couple of minutes and fill out the following brief Google Form, it would be much appreciated. Please fill out one form for each WMS child. Thank you in advance!
We have about five weeks left before summer vacation, and we will be continuing to encourage students to keep their focus on their learning as new content is being taught and our expectations are high. If students have any questions at all, they should reach out to their teachers or guidance counselor. We are all here to support them both academically and with any social-emotional issues they may have.
***Important*** If your contact information has changed at all (phone numbers, email, home address) please contact me as soon as possible. We want to be able to get important information out to families without delay.
For 8th-grade parents/guardians:
On April 28, 8th-11th grade students should have received an email from WHS Principal Shirley Lundberg via SchoolMessenger with information about accessing their course requests for the 20-21 school year. (Students should search "SchoolMessenger" in their email if they are having trouble finding it.) Students were also asked to complete an Elective Selection form by April 29 indicating their elective choices.
In the next several days, those elective choices, as well as teacher recommendations, will be visible in PowerSchool. When all of these requests are visible, we will send an email to students asking them to:
1. Log in to PowerSchool to view their course requests.
2. Complete a form confirming that they have: 1) reviewed their course requests and 2) shared those requests with a parent/guardian. Within this form, students will have the opportunity to request changes to electives, note that they are in the process of appealing a course recommendation, or complete the elective selection form if they had not completed it by April 29.
Rest assured that if your student missed the April 29 deadline they will be able to request their electives in this new form. Thank you for your patience as we work through this process differently this year!
- We will be working together to determine ways to honor our 8th-graders in lieu of the traditional graduation and other fanfare. We will be able to make better decisions in a few weeks as we see the guidelines from the state, but we will certainly figure something out! If you have any ideas, please feel free to email me or any of the 8th-grade teachers, or join our next PTO meeting on May 13th.
- DC Refunds: The refunds were sent from the WPS Administrative offices to Town Hall last Friday and will be processed there with all other payments, and will then be mailed out by the Treasurer's office as soon as possible.
I hope you all have a wonderful week.
Take good care of each other,
All my best,
Donna
