Region 10 is happy to provide the following trainings related to school safety during the Fall of 2021. Safety and security continue to be a growing focus in our schools and Region 10 desires to be your partner in your effort to keep your students and staff safe.

School Safety Round Tables
The round table is an informal setting, facilitated by Region 10, with an agenda of items contributed by all participants. This is a time for SROs and administrators to discuss their situations and needs in an effort to learn from the experiences of others and work on solving problems related to school safety.

UPSBI Training
Overview
The purpose of the training is to provide a background for school administrators; primarily principals and transportation directors, law enforcement, and others with information and knowledge to facilitate planning for incidents on school campuses. While the title includes Schools Bombing incidents, the training is more of an all-hazards approach and includes planning elements for terror attacks as well as criminal acts perpetrated on school property.
UPSBI provides technical operations and awareness training for law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, school administration and staff, emergency management and other personnel who have a significant responsibility for responding to Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) incidents involving explosives and incendiary materials in a school environment..
The Understanding and Planning for School Bombing Incidents (UPSBI) course specifically focuses on prevention and response to school bombing incidents.

Chapter 37 Discipline Review Training
Required Chapter 37 Texas Education Code training for principals and administrators:
Texas Education Code 37.0108 states that: Each principal or other appropriate administrator who oversees student discipline shall, at least once every three school years, attend professional development training regarding this subchapter, including training relating to the distinction between a discipline management technique used at the principal’s discretion under Section 37.002 (Removal by Teacher)(a) and the discretionary authority of a teacher to remove a disruptive student under Section 37.002 (Removal by Teacher)(b).
Region 10 is very pleased to announce that we will have Mary Scott, Student Discipline Program Specialist in the Information Technology department of TEA. She will present a VIRTUAL morning session (9:00am-12:00pm) and a VIRTUAL afternoon session (1:00pm-4:00pm) on September 29, 2021. You may choose either of these 3 hour sessions to fulfill your requirement for this training.
This session will be repeated in the afternoon. You can sign up for either the morning or the afternoon.

TxSSC: School Behavioral Threat Assessment Training
Course Description:
The board of trustees of each school district is required to establish a threat assessment team to serve at each campus of the district. The Board must also adopt policies and procedures for the teams that are consistent with the model policies and procedures developed by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC). In addition, each team is required to complete training provided by the TxSSC or a Regional Education Service Center.
In order to supplement the offerings from the Texas School Safety Center, Region 10 is offering School Behavioral Threat Assessment training to enable districts to meet this requirement
Very Important Note:
This training is designed for teams from each school district to train together. When signing up for this training, please make sure to sign up with members of your district/school threat assessment team.
Participants will learn the steps in developing a threat assessment team including staff members who make up an effective team. This workshop is designed to give the coordinator of the threat assessment team the tools to return to campus and start setting up a team or work with the current team more effectively.
The target audience includes school administrators, school resource officers, school safety director.
This training will be face to face and held at the Region 10 facilities. There is not a virtual option for this session.

The Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the I Love U Guys Foundation, is hosting a no cost Standard Response Protocol/Standard Reunification Method (SRP/SRM) Train-the-Trainer Virtual Training. This is a 7-hour training, with the expected outcome that participants complete the training with the ability to perform the SRP classroom training, implement the program, train other trainers in their own district, school, department, or agency and handle advanced questions related to the SRP.

TxSSC: Digital Threat Assessment Training
Digital Threat Assessment was developed to address the need to keep pace with the ever-evolving technology challenges that face our students currently. Successful Violence Threat Risk Assessment requires a have a solid understanding of all data needed to appropriately assess an individuals’ potential for violence. An overall assessment of risk cannot be determined without looking at social media and online activity. It is imperative to understand the tools and methods available to identify online threat related behavior.

School-Based Law Enforcement Training (TCOLE)
Important Session Information:
The Texas School Safety Center School-Based Law Enforcement training division will host TCOLE #4064, this is a 20-hour, two-day training. This training will help school districts comply with recent legislative changes.
We are updating course materials to ensure that participants receive the most current information available. Topics will include child and adolescent development and psychology; positive behavioral interventions and supports; conflict resolution and restorative justice techniques; de-escalation techniques and techniques for limiting the use of force, including limiting the use of physical, mechanical, and chemical restraints; the mental and behavioral health needs of children with disabilities or special needs; and mental health crisis intervention.
The course is free, but registration is required. Please register early. Courses that do not have at least five students registered 30 days prior to the start date to will be cancelled.
