... a note from Principal Reynolds
December 1, 2020
UPDATE
Dear MBE Families,
I want to provide all of our families with an update of where things stand at the school with relation to our Covid-19 protocols and procedures as we head into the month of December.
At first, I do want to make it clear that, at the time of this letter being written, we have NO cases of Covid-19 at our school. Our staff and students have done an amazing job at the school with regards to adhering to cleaning, sanitizing, and social distancing protocols – and I commend our parent group for their diligence in keeping sick kids home and doing your part to keep ALL of our students and staff safe. Your efforts have been greatly appreciated!
As I know you are aware, the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been rising over the past week in our community and we are seeing them continue to do so on a daily basis. We are also starting to see a number of instances where our students and staff have reported to have been in contact, or in the vicinity, of someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.
We have done a good job at MBE with regards to implementing and maintaining Covid protocols and procedures, but as I have said before on several occasions, 'Covid is NOT in our building... if/when we get cases, it will come into our school from outside.' And now, we are starting to see some of our neighbouring schools in Edson with their first positive cases and we can assume that somewhere along the way, our turn may come.
When it does come, our job now will then be to 'manage it' so that it is contained to a small group and we isolate that group with the hopes that we keep them safe and stop the spread within our building. Sounds easy on paper; it may be a little more challenging in reality...
The good thing is 'managing challenges' is what we do - and this will be another one of those challenges that we need to deal with. We will now turn the good ship MBE into the oncoming wave and will meet it head on. There's an epic crew aboard this ship and I feel quite confident and optimistic about our chances to navigate that wave successfully.
The landscape will continue to change and we will keep you updated as we receive information in the office. Nobody here is alone - please remember that - and we all need to make sure we lean on, and support, each other so that we all stay safe and healthy.
More than ever...
... WE GOT THIS !

What do we need from our Parents?
From our parents, we need you to keep doing what you have been doing since this started:
1. Keep your kids home if they are sick;
2. Continue to use the Alberta Health Daily Covid Checklist to guide your decision-making
when it comes to sending your child to school each morning;
3. Be mindful of social distancing in the front of the school at dismissal pick-up;
4. Stay in communication with your child's teacher so everyone is on the same page;
5. Be patient and kind with each other as we navigate these uncharted waters together.
I want to thank you for all you have done, and continue to do, to make MBE the safe and caring learning place it is for our students. If we are extra vigilant and work together, we will get through this. Please know that if you need to talk, need support, have questions, or just need to rant - I'm here... and you can contact me at the school by phone, by email, or through our social media pages anytime!
