Positive Behavior Update
For the past two weeks the students have been learning all about empathy and how our thoughts affect our feelings and actions. The next two weeks will focus on teaching students how to make an apology. This is a skill that we often expect children to do without teaching them the steps. The steps for making an apology are:
● Look at the person
● Use a sincere tone of voice
● Begin by saying, “I am sorry for….”
● Say what you will do in the future
● Offer to fix the problem.
According to the website pbisworld.com making an apology correctly is beneficial for the following reasons:
● Way of empowering the student
● Teaches correct and expected behaviors
● Teaches student problem solving skills
● Teaches empathy and compassion
● Provides a better alternative than punitive consequences
● Benefits and validates the victim
● Provides resolution to student conflicts
● Teaches students how to interact and socialize
We are continuing to focus on walking on campus and using our “talking voices” at the lunch tables. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations at home.
