8th Grade Happenings for September

East Wilkes Middle School

What a great start!

Thank you! We had such a great start to a new year. So, many thanks to parents and students as we begin a new journey together. We are so excited at all the opportunities this school year will bring.

Our Focus

Be sure to send $10.00 for lock/planner fee. Students should have all paperwork signed and returned to his/her teacher (8th grade information sheet, bus rules, p.18 in planner). Planners are checked every morning in homebase for a parent signature. Students with a signature earn Pride cards.

We are doing transformations (translations, dialations, reflections). 8th Grade IXL is on Level J this year. Assignments are posted on teacher websites.

Chappell's class will be focusing on atomic structure, periodic table organization, and uses of elements. Students have vocabulary assignments Monday thru Thursday with a quiz on Friday.

Language Arts

We are reading "Flowers for Algernon". Students have weekly reading logs due on Friday. Students also have weekly stem assignments with quizzes. We will then read "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens."

Social Studies

We are focusing on the early civilizations up to early settlements of North Carolina. We will be discussing Jamestown, the Columbian Exchange, etc. We have discussed regions of NC and are learning the 50 states.

We are discussing how to show PRIDE in school. Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Encouragement. Students will have the opportunity to earn weekly, monthly and quarterly rewards for demonstrating PRIDE

Back to School Dance
