ACE Mini PD: Show Call
The SHOW CALL Technique: October 2017
Steps for SHOW CALL: Elevating Rigor
- Select student work to show on the document camera. (You can easily identify work by "aggressive monitoring").
- While students view work, ask them to analyze the work for your intended purpose. Your selection may: highlight an exemplar, highlight work with strengths and also needs for upgrades, or show multiple examples and have students analyze for accuracy.
- Ask questions for students to answer. Facilitate discussion with turn & talk and habits of discussion.
- Emphasize the main learning points.
- Allow students to return to their work to upgrade. "Accountable Revision"
Benefits of SHOW CALL:
1. Increases accountability for students written work
2. Normalizes the idea of "making work better": growth mindset
3. Models exemplar work to help elevate student performance
4. Provides tool for increasing dialogue and analysis
5. Models values of feedback and collaborative culture
