Fourth Grade News

The week of April 11-15, 2016

Coming Up This Week:

Reading- Students will continue to compare/contrast text from different genres, track figurative language while reading, identify different nonfiction text structures, as well as write to reflect their comprehension.


Writing- We will begin our unit on informational writing!


Social Studies- We will continue our unit on the Midwest as we practice the states/capitals, and learn about the region's resources.


Math- Students will add fractions with like denominators, determine equivalent fractions, and compare fractions.


Science- Students will begin their animal research projects. Students will research diets, locations, adaptations, interesting facts, and other information regarding their chosen animals. Students will have time during school, but if they fall behind they will be expected to complete some of it at home. Projects are due April 29th.

Important Dates This Week:

Tuesday - Extra math help until 3:00 (everyone is welcome)

Tuesday - Family book fair night from 5:00 to 7:30

Tuesday - Poetry Slam in the school library from 6:00 - 7:00

Wednesday - Book Fair during school hours

Friday 4/15: Spelling Test & Quabbin Day at NBES

Monday- Red Sox Day

Tuesday- Favorite Character Day

Wednesday- Crazy Hair Day

Thursday- Mismatch Day

Friday- NBES/Purple Day


Upcoming book club:

The next book club will be a student choice. Each student can choose any book he or she would like to read and create a project to share with the group. There are no expectations for the project, but some examples are shoebox presentation, character mobiles, Powerpoint presentations, posters, book report, etc. Be creative and have fun! This will be the last book club of the year and the date will be Thursday May 26th. You can pick your child up outside my room or come into the building (room 14). The pick up time will be 4:00. We have had some wonderful book clubs this year and I am sad to say this will be the last.

Earring Making Party

Thursday, April 28th, 3:15pm

10 New School Drive Room 14 (Mrs. Peterson's room)

Earring making party with Mrs. Peterson's crafty mom will be April 28th until 3:15. If you are interested please send in a note or RSVP by Thursday, April 14th. We can only take 5 students at a time, but we will schedule different dates throughout the rest of the year to include anyone interested. I will contact you through a note in the agenda if your child can attend the first session or if they will be included in a later date.
