A message from Ms. Lilly
RNE newsletter January 19th 2017
The Principal's Office
Dear RNE Family,
It has been a very busy week at RNE. Our students were treated to a fantastic performance, Poetry Alive, thanks to our PTA’s literacy committee. It was truly spectacular. Our performers brought the poems to life and involved our students in the performance. We will send out pictures of the fun in a future SMORE. Thank you PTA!! This was a great experience.
Thank you to the parents that attended our encore parent workshop with a math focus. It was very informative. We are working to add resources to our RNE website for those of you who were unable to attend.
Next week, we will have our second release day. This is a day off for students to allow teachers to engage in a full day of professional learning with our math and reading consultants. I know our students will benefit from teacher learning.
Please remember we will have family science night on Tuesday, January 24 from 5:30-7:00. Our teachers have planned wonderful STEM activities for families to view and participate in. Also, I hope many of you have reserved Saturday, February 11th for our morning of service. Our “Share the Love” project promises to be a wonderful event for our school to give back to our community. We look forward to seeing you at these great events!
I hope you enjoy the weekend!
Best,
Maureen
PARENTS!
Each year, parents are able to provide feedback about their child's school by completing the Georgia Parent Survey. This anonymous survey is conducted by the Georgia Department of Education and the participation results directly contribute to our CCRPI School Climate Rating. We would love to have 100% participation! Please take a moment to complete this short survey by answering a few questions about our school. You can access the survey by clicking on the following link below.

Nominating Committee - Our PTA needs your help!
The PTA is looking for individuals to nominate eligible persons to serve in the vacant officer roles for the 2017-2018 school year. We need 3 individuals along with 2 alternates from our PTA membership to serve on this committee. This is an exciting opportunity and important task to help propose the next representatives to sit on the executive committee. If you are interested in serving on this nominating committee, please email your name and contact information to me at rnespresident@gmail.com
Volunteer Training
To keep in compliance with State Law and best practices, for the 2016-2017 school year, we will require that all persons interested in volunteering in the Fulton County School District to re-register/register (even if a person has completed an application in the past)by completing the new online volunteer registration/application process.
The registration process can be found on the FCS District Website under Community/Partners & Volunteers or http://www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/sup/comm/Pages/partnersvolunteers.aspx
Applicants should be prepared to spend about 10-15 minutes for the training and application process.
In accordance with State Law, all volunteers must be current with the Child Abuse Reporting Protocol Training before being allowed to volunteer in our schools. It is very important that volunteers enter their full legal name as it appears on their government issued ID (please do not use nicknames or "goes by" names on the application). All applicants must wait 24 hours after applying for application processing and approval.
Changes to student transportation
Changes to student transportation must be made in writing with your signature. When making a transportation change (after school activity, daycare instead of car rider), please make sure to include the following information:
1. Student’s first and last name
2. Teacher’s Name
3. Normal way home
4. Transportation change
5. Dates for change
6. Parent or guardian signature
Our bus drivers work very hard to make sure students have great experiences while in their care. Our transportation department ensures that bus drivers have student contact information for all students assigned to their bus. This allows them to contact parents in the event of an emergency. For student safety, our board policy states-
“Pupils will ride on assigned buses, board, and debark at their designated stop. Parents may request in writing any exceptions to this rule. Requests must be made to the Transportation Department. In case of emergency, the principal may authorize a student to ride a different bus or change bus stops:
a) No requests shall be approved for social activities or projects.
b) Requests involving childcare shall be given consideration only if there is room on the bus.”
Many of our buses are quite full so adding additional students is difficult.
I appreciate your support as we return students safely to you each day!
GOTR
