Ben Franklin Focus

September Edition

Champions of the Week!

PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) is a program here at BF used to support students in a positive manner. This is an opportunity for our students to use correct behaviors throughout the school day. When any staff member or bus driver sees our students doing the right thing, they will receive a Viking Pride card.

Students will be able to turn in their Viking Pride cards as they enter the cafeteria each day. Every Friday morning we have "Championship Friday" when two winners are drawn from each grade level. The winners will come down to the office for fun rewards. First, they will take a principal selfie, which will go on display in the cafeteria on the Viking Ship in the cafeteria. Next, we will make a phone call home during this time letting you know how proud we are of your child. Finally, the winners choose a prize based on incentives from their grade level teachers.

We love seeing positive behaviors throughout the day and we look forward to celebrating with you and your child throughout the school year!

BF Reads a Book

BF READS A BOOK is a year long reading program created for the BF community. We will read, discuss, and enjoy books together. The 2017-2018 topic is Digital Citizenship. All BF students, staff, and parents are encouraged to read any or all of the six books featured this year and attend book discussions or activities. Activities will be listed on our website and in the BF READS A BOOK Module in the grade level Canvas page, and on the morning announcements!

Six Book Challenge

Students are challenged to read all six novels. Students who complete the Reading Counts or Canvas quiz with a grade of 7 or higher on all six novels will be awarded a BF READS A BOOK "Boss" certificate at the end of the year. Students should tell Ms. McCormack in the library when they are finished reading all six novels. She will verify on Reading Counts and in Canvas. There are quizzes for Need, Backlash, and Unfriended in Reading Counts. The quizzes for Worthy, The Silence of Six, and In Case You Missed It are listed in the Canvas Modules.

We look forward to reading these books throughout the school year!

Study Table

Could your child use some quiet homework and study time? Then Study Table is just the right place! On Mondays-Thursdays from 3:00-3:45 p.m. in the Media Center a staff member will offer a supervised, quiet location for your child to complete homework and study. Please note that Study Table will not be held the day before a long weekend. A late bus is available if transportation home is needed. Please let us know if you have any questions about Study Table.

Save the Date!

All Ben Franklin students are invited to attend the BFMS Student Council sponsored Drive-in Movie Night event October 11th from 6:30p.m. - 8:00p.m. This fun evening includes a movie shown against the retaining wall of the north end zone of the football field. The concession stand and Kona Ice truck will be open for students to purchase food and beverages. Yum! The evening will conclude with a fabulous fireworks show. We can't wait to see you there!
