Suicide or Accident?
The Death of Marilyn Monroe
Norma Jeane Mortenson
In 1926 Norma Jeane was born in Los Angeles at the General Hospital. In the 1930's her mother was sent to an asylum and she went to an orphanage and foster homes, and she never found out who her dad was. In 1945 she was discovered by a photographer by the name of David Conover. In 1946 she made first National Magazine Cover and signed a contract with 20th century fox. February 1956 she legally changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. In the last final years of her life she was difficult to work with and was ill , and had personal problems. She died in 1932 at the age of 36.
Media Needs to Keep Their Facts Straight
The Media has the death of Marilyn Monroe all over the place.
One theory on why she died is the fact that she purposely overdosed on Barbiturates (an anti-depressant) which in terms it means she committed suicide. The 2nd of these 3 theories was that is was an accident that she didn't mean to take as many anti-depressants as she did. The 3rd reason behind this was the fact that someone planned this and forced her to take these barbiturates.
Biases
The type of bias that you see continually throughout stories of Marilyn Monroe's death would be bias of source selection. Many stories will produce only the authors opinion on what happened to her. But really all we know is the fact that she overdosed on Barbiturates either way. The authors try to persuade their point of view by getting you to see what you want to see, not what you need to see.
Criticism
The type of criticism I believe is Marxist. The reason on why i believe it is, is because the media is twisting and turning different view points on why and how she died. Nobody will never truly know how she died. But the media will always put their viewpoints in on this, and will continue to do so.
Opinion
Through my eyes everything that is adding up, it looks like a suicide. "Overdose of Barbiturates", "towards the end of her life she was ill, hard to deal with, had personal problems" "struggled with drug abuse" . Everything that I have read makes it look like she meant to kill herself. Towards the end of her life she went through a lot in her past, her mom was in an asylum, she never had a dad she got a divorce. All these things can add up, and as a model and a true icon, it's hard to be strong for so long. So ultimately I believe she kept it all bottled up, and wanted to end her life because she was put through so much, and it came slowly and then all at once.
