Minutos de Sra. Hutchins
Hello Fronteras Families!
THANK YOU to Mr. and Mrs. Moller and Mr. Prestien for helping with morning traffic. We’re super fortunate that they have volunteered to help with afternoon traffic during our No Bus days too. Thank you to everyone for your patience as Durham works to fill driver openings. Continue to check the district website for bus cancellation notices and/or changes.
THANK YOU to Mrs. Whittum, for coming in and taking care of a ton of our day custodian needs! You were a huge help to us and we are so very grateful!
Thank you to Dr. Kaye Zwiacher, for assembling our classroom sweepers and for breaking down a ton of delivery boxes and shuttling the cardboard to the recycling center! Twice. Again, that was a HUGE help to us and we so appreciate your time! We are happy to announce that Elizabeth Leverty is joining us as our day custodian on Monday! We are happy to welcome Elizabeth to our team!
Looking ahead, School Pictures are just around the corner. Students may want to pick out a special outfit for September 20th! Every student will be photographed for our annual yearbook. Parents have the option to purchase picture packages.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Hutchins

Needs!
Our fabulously talented Art teacher, Sra. Franck, and with Sra. Hernandez’s help, is creating something super cool and new for our Spanish Heritage celebration this year! Please read the following project description:
Sawdust carpets (tapetes de aserrín) are one or more layers of colored sawdust, and sometimes other additional materials, laid on the ground as decoration. Sawdust carpets are traditionally created to greet a religious procession that walks over them. The tradition of decorating streets in this fashion began in Europe and was brought to the Americas by the Spanish. The tradition is still found in Mexico, Central America, parts of South America and parts of the United States, but it is strongest in Mexico and Central America.
Because of this project’s large scale, unique & intricate design, we need help from our families! If you are able to loan or donate the following items, we would greatly appreciate it! The other (and most important) item is a truckload of sawdust. Yes, a truckload. The best sawdust to use is the shavings that resemble animal bedding. Light, fluffy, and dusty sawdust cannot be used. If you know a woodworker or two, who might have an excess of sawdust, would you pass their name and contact number to us please?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide us! Please reach out to Sra. Franck via email: shelli.franckowiak@matsuk12.us with questions or if you are able to loan or donate an item in the Needs List below.
Needs:
12 five gallon buckets/ kitty litter buckets (sometimes can be picked up at the Valley recycling center for low cost)
15 Tarps 8 x 10’
8 plastic dust pans

Lunchtime Reminders!
Lunch time reminders:
- No Top Ramen or Cup of Noodles unless precooked and stored in a thermos. Top Ramen and Cup of Noodles takes too long to microwave causing safety issues and not allowing enough time for your child to eat their lunch
- No lunch items requiring more than a minute to microwave
- No microwave popcorn
- No glass containers, this has proven to be a safety hazard
- Students need to bring a labeled water bottle every day to school

Upcoming Spanish Heritage Month- Do you have a cultural dance or game that you played as a child or know one well from a Spanish speaking country that would like to share or be a guest speaker during P.E. class? Please contact me at Guin.Hill@matsuk12.us or a classdojo message.
We will also be starting a soccer unit on September 19th K-8. If you have any extra soccer balls or would like to donate some, please send them in. Students are also invited to bring their own, name labeled soccer balls during their P.E. days until October 14th during our Spanish cultural celebration.
Bike Days- September 2022-
We will have one Bike Day this month (only bikes this day, please) for P.E. class. More days will be planned in the spring. Students may bring and store their own bike for P.E. class.
You may drop bikes off and pick up on your student’s scheduled PE days or drop off on non-bus days if needed.
We are back to an ABC special’s rotation this semester, so there will only be one bike day. If you plan to bring your child’s bike to school, please deliver to the labeled cones outside the school (same drill as last two years) on the morning of your Bike Day you may deliver them earlier if needed, please make sure helmet and bike is clearly labeled. Please plan to pick up the bikes by Friday, September 16th (earlier delivery or pick up is fine if it is clearly labeled on your bike to help us stayed organized). We can store bikes in gym when not in use (only until the last pick up day.) Please label your bike with name, teacher, and grade and “Ok to Share” and “NO SHARE”. We ask that all bikes be picked up by after school by Friday, September 16th. . If we have at least one parent volunteer, that class can take a bike field trip off campus (weather permitting). We can connect to the nice, paved Alcantra trail system for older grades if time permits. Plan B will be to stay on campus (Kinder on campus all class) so we will have fun either way. 😊
Bike Days for P.E. are as followed. We will aim to bike rain or shine (unless it’s a complete down pour) So please send in rain gear if needed.
Please send in a helmet if possible! We really need larger adult size 16, 20 or 24 inch bikes if anyone has any to donate or let us borrow (please label “Ok to share). We also are in need of adult size helmet donations. We have plenty of small kid helmets here at school so no need for small kid size helmets.
If your student doesn’t know how to ride a bike yet we have strider bikes and will support children in learning on our bike days. Please reach out to me at Guin.Hill@matsuk12.us. if your student might benefit from some extra practice with a strider bike before our P.E. Bike Days at school.

A Word From Our Student Ambassadors!
These are your Fronteras Student Ambassadors, Raylee Bowen and Rianne Rowe. We are very ready to have an amazing school year! We have plans for some fun new school activities such as a competition for all grade levels called "are you smarter than a middle schooler?" where students (K-5) challenge their knowledge against middle schoolers! We're also planning many school events like spirit weeks, pumpkin carving, middle school reading buddies, and a snowman building competition. Raylee and I also have a goal of bringing back after school clubs. We would love to have a drama club, cooking club, craft clubs, a chess club, and sports clubs. We are, of course, open to any suggestions you may have for club ideas. However, in order to bring these clubs back, we need some amazing parent volunteers to solely lead and manage these activities . Parents who agree to lead after school clubs must understand that these clubs are NOT school managed activities. The lead parent(s) is responsible for identifying club leaders, advertising of clubs, and collecting the $25 payment for club participation, as well as notifying parents of any behavior issues.
After school clubs are a wonderful opportunity and a big responsibility! If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kami at the front office. Thank you for your consideration.
Appreciatively, Rianne Rowe and Raylee Bowen
Hello Everybody,
My name is Raylee Bowen and I am one of two Student Ambassadors for this school year. Here is a little bit about me. I am in the 7th grade, my favorite color is purple, and I am the oldest of three siblings. We have many fun activities planned for this year and here is one idea; spirit week once a month. For that we would like to have a recommendation box for students, then the staff and Ambassadors will pick their favorite or the most popular one. I hope you are all having a nice day!
