Newsletter Week 1 -Term 2 2021
St Joseph's Catholic School Morrinsville May 4th 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora Koutou,
Welcome to Term 2. We had a lovely start to the week introducing our core value of whakaute (respect) for this term. Our main message is that we would like our children to treat others as they would like to be treated. Our staff and students will continue to unpack what respect looks like over the term. I know the children will come home with lots of ideas!
A special welcome to our new students who have joined St Joes this term. Kian and Niello Sonnendecker have joined us from another school and will be in Whakatipu Hub and Room 4. We know their sister Tahnay is very excited to have them with her at school. Welcome to Jessica Marwick and Evie Fraser-Jones who have started in Akonga Hub. Their big sisters Chelsea and Lauren are very excited too! We know you will make our new children feel very at home.
We welcome Terry Consadine, Nikki Whyte and John Coulam. Terry, Nikki and John are undertaking a Catholic Special Character Review of our school. This takes place every three years in our Catholic schools. They will be focusing on all aspects of our special character throughout St Joes. We know they will enjoy our school over the next two days.
This term starts off with a bang! Next Tuesday we are hosting the Hamilton Catholic Schools Literacy Quiz with 20 team entries. This event started a few years ago with Mr Bennett inviting a couple of schools to have a friendly quiz against so we could practise for the Waikato Lit Quiz. Mr Bennett has built it up to be a fantastic competition for our Catholic Schools. Jeff writes the quiz and spends a great deal of time researching and of course reading. Thanks Mr B. It is going to be a great event!
We have two important calendar items for you to mark. The first is our Student Led Conferences being held on Tuesday 25 May and Wednesday 26 May. We also have a Teacher Only Day booked on Friday 4 June. Our teachers in the Morrinsville Kahui Ako are having a day to deepen our cultural responsiveness. Please note that this is an Accord Day which means we are not tagging another day on at the end of the year. Please plan ahead to make the appropriate arrangements for your children for this Teacher Only Day...thank you.
Have a great first week. The mornings are getting colder but that sun is still shining. Take care and God bless.

Anzac Day 2021 at School
Our school recognised ANZAC Day with a memorial service led by our Year 7 and 8's on the last Thursday of term.
This was a time for reflection and remembrance for servicemen and women that have been a part of our armed forces through many wars and conflicts around the world right up to those still serving to this very day.
Thank you Room 3 for a special service, and to Emma Van Vliet and Lizzie Seath for representing our school at the Morrinsville Civic Service on ANZAC Day. Emma and Lizzie laid a wreath with pride on our schools behalf. Special thanks goes to those that gave donations in exchange for a poppy, with this money going in support of the local RSA in their services.
May is the Month of Mary
Livestock Day and Group Day 2021
This year St Josephs School are hosts for the
2021 Tri-schools Livestock Day and Duty School for Group Day,
both being held in October.
If you are interested in being a part of the organising/set up team please give Robyn a call, or pop into the office.
It would be great to have you on the team. Thank you.
Linewize partnership
As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence and our duty to ensure students’ safety and well-being, we’re proud to announce that we have introduced Linewize technologies.
Linewize is New Zealand’s leading provider of cyber safety technology. Linewize helps us to ensure our students are safe and on task during school time.
We have deployed Linewize filtering technology on our school network, school account and to primary learning devices/all devices that connect to our school network. This is critical to our efforts to protect your children online during school time and when they are using their school account, whether your child is connected to the school’s network or not (such as though mobile hotspotting).
YOUR TURN
As part of our Linewize account, we have secured the family zone package. This means that as parents, you are able to support your child at home on devices they are using. Some of the features include managing gaming, streaming, and screen time. You can also restrict what the children are able to access.
We will be sending more information to you through our Seesaw so you can get a good understanding of the family zone programme.

Calling for Master Chefs for Our Schools Weekly
Thursday Sausage Sizzle
Master Chefs are required urgently approximately once per term for
1.5 hours on a Thursday to cook sausages and clear away.
When numbers allow, two Chefs usually work together using frypans in the school hall, producing top quality browning on those yummy sausages.
We welcome parents, grandparents or friends of the school to lend a hand, as many of our seasoned cooks are stepping down as their children move on from school.
All money raised goes towards off setting costs of student class trips or camps. We would love to hear from you.
Please email either odettes@netsmart.net.nz admin@stjoes.school.nz
or phone the office on 8895306.
We have an exciting pathway in our school!
