Dewing School Details

Office Update: September 7, 2022

Information from Mrs. Bosworth

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are off to a WONDERFUL start here at the Dewing School. The students are amazing, the staff are amazing and so are all of our familes. Thank you for helping prepare your child(ren) for school.

Today, we had our first fire drill. The students did great! This week and next, individual classes will be practicing additional evacuation drills. These are done in a child-friendly, developmentally appropriate manner.

Wearable Devices/Toys: We ask that students do not bring wearable devices (watch phones, cameras etc) or toys to school. If they are brought to school, we will ask children to turn them off and put them in their backpacks. We appreciate your cooperation with this.

Grade 1 and 2 Open House-This will take place on September 13th. Please see the flyer below for times. Please note, there are separate times for each grade level.

Ice Cream Social-On Friday, September 23rd, our PAC is hosting an Ice Cream Social. We hope to see our friends there. They will have a sensory friendly time as well as popsicles for students with allergies. Please see the flyer.

Dewing Site Council-We are looking for volunteers to participate in a montly site council meeting. We plan to meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 3:30-4:30. We can do this meeting virtually. Please email me at abosworth@tewksbury.k12.ma.us

Specialist Changes-Your child's teacher has likely told you that we have had a change to our specialist schedule. Our students now have access to six specials! We have added a Literacy special to our lineup. In order to do this, we now have a six day rotation of specials. This means that students have one special every six days. The big question is....when should my child wear sneakers??? My suggestion-Every Day.....we try to go outside as much as possible and sneakers make running easier. Please bear with us as we work out our schedule rotation, our teachers are doing a great job, but it can be confusing!

Information from the Cafeteria-If your child only wishes to have milk for lunch, there is a charge of .60 cents for the milk. In order for the milk to be free, students must take a snack.

Library Volunteers Needed: Email from Ms. Smallidge-We in the library are looking forward to a great year with your children. I will be teaching the Dewing students every other week until January. For the weeks that I am not in the building, we are looking for parent volunteers to work with Mrs. Ashe and help with checking books in and out. If you are interested, you will need to provide the school with an updated CORI form and come in for training on how to use the library circulation program. Please sign up on our SignUpGenius page. We look forward to welcoming you into the library once again!

-Mrs. Smallidge

In case you did not see this important information:

Lunch for students with nut allergies: As we are no longer spacing students apart in the cafeteria, there will be a designated nut free table in the cafeteria for students with nut allergies. If your child has a nut allergy and you wish to OPT OUT and have your child sit with their classmates, please email me in writing stating that you would like to opt out of placement at the nut free lunch table (abosworth@tewksbury.k12.ma.us). Please be advised, if your child does sit with their peers at the assigned homeroom table, we will not be able to monitor the presence of nuts or other allergens brought to the table by other students.
