Mrs. Clark's First Grade
2013-2014
January 2014
Wow, these last 3 weeks of January have FLOWN by! We've been busy, busy, busy in First grade. The progress at the midpoint of the year is amazing, as evidenced by your child's reading level, writing ability, and math skills. Take a look at their Friday journal (ugh--next week, when I remind them to take them home!) and see how their writing has CHANGED! Take a look at the books they're bringing home in their take home reader folders--talk about GROWTH! So proud of these kiddos. We work hard and have fun doing it. :)
Writing
We shared writing ideas with a partner, then gave each other feedback on our ideas. These ideas were turned into small moment stories, which we "published" this week!
Math
We learned about 2-D shapes. We also learned how to make 2-D shapes into other 2-D shapes!
Stations
We used pattern blocks to make geometric figures and read the words on the shapes!
New Student
We had a new student join our class. Welcome Alani!
More Stations
We practiced our spelling words with stamps, wikki stix, magnetic letters, magazine letters, etc.
Penguins
We learned all about penguins! We learned penguin facts through non-fiction text and learned about character traits in books with the Tacky the Penguin series.
