PES Principal Message
February 9, 2023
This week is National Counseling Week! We are so happy to celebrate Miss Buaas and her work during her very first year as a school counselor. Her consistency and follow-through in her work add great value to our team. She builds amazing relationships with our students and we are so proud she is ours!
Tomorrow we FINALLY get to celebrate 100 days of school! We will kick off the day with a parade of tiny old people parading the halls. I can't wait to see all of the kinder outfits this year! Get your FAST PASS here if you are planning to attend.
We will end the day tomorrow with our annual PTO Daddy Daughter Dance. It's always super sweet to see our girls having special, quality time with their "dates."
Next week is Valentine's Week! We LOVE sharing the love at Puster! Classroom parties will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. If you decide to join us, you're welcome to sign up for a FAST PASS and skip the front desk.
Have a wonderful weekend. Go CHIEFS!

Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:
Heart of the Teacher and Heart of Support
Ariel is a ray of sunshine at Puster. She is a huge part of building a positive culture on our campus. She has built a great STEM/Library program for our students and is constantly learning. She truly knows our students as individuals and works to motivate them to learn.
Pat Panmanee, Student Nutrition
Pat works whenever, whatever, wherever needed. She loves the kids and goes out of her way with each individual student. She pays attention to their needs and wants and remembers them when they come through the cafeteria.

News from Mrs. George
Just a reminder that school begins at 7:55 am. Students should be in their seats at 7:55 when the bell rings. In the event you are running late, a parent should walk the student into the front office to sign them in. Please let the office staff know if you have any questions.
Testing season is upon us. Students identified as English Language Learners will be participating in TELPAS assessment during a five week window in February. More information on specific testing dates will be coming soon.
STAAR dates for third and fourth grade are listed below. Please schedule appointments around these dates.
Notes from the Library
26,019 titles have circulated so far for this year!
One of my favorite parts of my job is to share my love of reading with students and help them grow as a lifelong reader, in partnership with families. I am here to help match the right books to the right reader. We practice previewing interesting books to make sure it is a good fit for them as a reader, and help redirect with books that are aimed at other age levels in our Kinder-4th grade school.
Every Friday at 4:00 a “weekly notification” email from Lovejoy ISD Library System should go out with the current physical titles your student has checked out from the Puster Library.
Students also have access to Ebooks and audiobooks through Sora by overdrive. You can login to Sora to access the digital books your child has checked out.

In the hands of students, digital gift cards are a safe and easy payment method that won’t get lost in a backpack. They make great gifts for teachers!
Gift cards can be purchased from your online fair at efairs.literati.com. Customers can buy gift cards in person as well, so long as they have the recipient’s email address at checkout.
HOW THEY WORK
Purcase online at https://efairs.literati.com/product-category/gift-cards/ or purchase gift cards at checkout, the customer enters in a recipient’s email address.
A gift card code is then sent to the recipient’s email inbox.
To redeem, the cashier scans the gift card code at checkout, or the recipient inputs the code themselves online.
Gift cards never expire, so students and teachers can use any remaining funds on their next Literati Book Fair!
Teacher book fair wishlists are a great way for the community to give back to their teachers. This year, their will be a teacher wishlist ticket stand full of colorful wishlist tickets. These tickets give you the flexibility to buy your teacher a book or a book fair gift card.
Can’t make it in? Try our Online Companion Fair https://efairs.literati.com/books/ and select Puster Elementary our online fair allows the whole community to shop our book fair, including those who aren’t able to visit in person. Online companion fairs feature an expanded catalog of books, giving you a bigger array of titles to choose from. That way everyone can find a new favorite read!
When our book fair ends, our online fair will close and all online purchases will be added to our total book fair sales. Then they will ship our school’s online book orders, which should arrive at our school within 10 days, depending on carrier transit times. Shipments will contain a packing list with teacher and student names, I will then distribute orders.

On behalf of LJVA, I am excited to invite you to join us for the 8th Annual LJVA Portrait Show, February 6th from 5-730pm at the LHS Gallery. This collection of work contains a broad investigation of the concepts of identity and self through the eyes and hands of students of all ages and stages of exploration in LJVA. Whether dealing with honest representation or the languages of abstraction and symbolism, the work chosen for this exhibition speaks to the ever-evolving idea of how our artists see themselves and the world around them. This carefully selected exhibition is a celebration of the diversity and personal experience found within our student body and Lovejoy community. Please join us at the opening exhibition to celebrate all of the selected artists and their work Monday, February 6th from 5-730pm at the Lovejoy High School Gallery. (Light snacks will be served.)
We hope to see you at the opening!
