A Note from Our Principal
Dear North Beach Families and Community,
What a busy week! Our students are improving their recycling and composting knowledge thanks to our assembly earlier in the week. Thank you to Mr. Oxford for leading our musicians in the regional concert on Wednesday. Last night we celebrated the diverse heritage of our staff and students at our annual culture night. Thank you so much to families and teachers who shared their cultural backgrounds with our students. It is such a valuable experience for them.
Our Building Leadership Team is in the process of developing our budget for the 2020-21 school year. If you are interested in learning more about the process, I’ll be hosting Coffee with the Principal next Friday at 8:15 AM. Next week we’re once again partnering with Antioch University to celebrate Multicultural Children’s Literature and will be hosting R. Gregory Christie all day on March 6. Come for the coffee at 8:15 and stay for the second assembly at 9:15!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Custodian Update
Not many people know this, but North Beach has been without a night custodian for nearly 2 months. Mr. Ray has been pulling double duty since then. Yet through it all, he has been helpful, courteous and not complaining one bit. With over 400 kids, 60 staff, and the continuous flow of parents, care givers and afterschool clubs that are a part of this school, I am just amazed that Ray is still going. And his caring of all of our young scholars is stronger than ever. The district has informed him that the replacement of the night custodian will come some time in August.

PTA Survey Now Open!
As we start planning for next year’s PTA budget and calendar, we’d like your input on PTA priorities. This survey should take about 3 minutes to complete and will help us decide where to allocate financial resources as well as devote volunteer time.
Who Wants to Be a PTA Officer Next Year?
Feel free to nominate yourself or a loved one! The PTA provides important support to our school and community, and as a registered 501c3 nonprofit, we need officers to function. If you’d like to make a huge contribution to your child’s school, please consider volunteering to be an officer. You can submit nominations to the nominating committee (Karin LaBelle, Rachel McDaniel, and Rebecca Mongrain) at nominations@northbeachpta.org. If you’d like more information on a specific position, please reach out to the current officers: Suzanne Hurley at president@northbeachpta.org, Tara Nessan at vp@northbeachpta.org, Jessica Bjorklund at treasurer@northbeachpta.org, and Beth Carman at secretary@northbeachpta.org. Each position is a one-year term with the possibility of a second term. Elections will take place at our April 7th meeting.
Rescheduled PTA Board Meeting, Wednesday, March 11, 6:30pm, North Beach Library
The PTA meeting originally scheduled for March 18 will now be on March 11. Among other things, we will be discussing what financial contributions the PTA will be making for school staffing next year. Once again we will not be receiving a district-funded counselor so if the school is to have one, the PTA will have to pay for one. All are welcome to attend.
Community Meeting with School Board Director Liza Rankin, Saturday, March 14, 3-5pm, at Lake City Branch, Seattle Public Library
Liza Rankin, our district director, will be holding a a community meeting in two weeks. This could be a good opportunity to ask her any questions you might have about SPS, such as why North Beach isn’t getting a district-provided counselor, what’s happening with HCC, and other issues important to you!
Renowned Illustrator, R. Gregory Christie is coming to North Beach!
Antioch University Seattle’s Multicultural Children’s Literature Celebration, in partnership with North Beach will be bringing renowned illustrator, R. Gregory Christie to our school on March 6. There is still time to purchase a book! The book order deadline has been extended Friday, February 28.
When: Friday, March 6, 2020
Where: North Beach Cafeteria
Time: K-2 Assembly 8:15-9:00AM & 3-5 Assembly 9:15-10:15AM

Calling on girls grades 3-5th grades, Girls on the Run 2020 is here!
What is Girls on the Run?
At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, fun activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-5th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. Seeing hundreds of girls streaming across the finish line is beautiful!
Start Date: March 3rd, Tuesday and Thursdays right after school. Registration closes March 9th.
The 5k: May 17th at Memorial Stadium in Renton.
