The Liverpool Letter
Liverpool Public School - June 2021
Diary Dates
Term 1
Principal's Message
As we near the end of Term 2, it is the perfect time to reflect on the wonderful things that have happened this semester. Great things are happening every day at our school!
Our sporting teams have been participating not only in their regular PSSA competition, but also in a series of knock-out games. They have thoroughly enjoyed the competition and so too have our students who are active supporters when we host a game at school. Surely you have heard the chants of “L-P-S” from our students?
Students in Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed trips to Featherdale and Sydney Zoo to support their science topics this term. These experiences help students make connections between what they are learning in the classroom with the outside world. I have had many students talk to me excitedly about their day and how much fun they had with their friends!
We were able to hold our cross country carnival after it was postponed. Students and staff had a great day which was well-organised and ran smoothly! Congratulations to all involved in organising the day.
Our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students completed their NAPLAN and Check-In Assessments. They did a fantastic job, with minimal fuss. Whilst we don’t have the results from NAPLAN just yet, teachers have been using the Check-In Assessments information to further inform teaching and learning.
The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre Project is back on again this year, with students involved having already visited the arts centre busy working with the artist developing their artworks. I look forward to sharing their work with you later in the year.
Our performing arts groups are busy preparing for upcoming auditions for this year’s Liverpool Arts and Film Festival. Students missed performing last year due to the cancelation of the festival and are looking forward to the opportunity to perform again.
The debating team held their first debate last week, and whilst we didn’t win the first debate, in the words of one of our debaters “it was a great learning experience for next time”! Such a positive growth mindset and one I am sure will support them throughout this year’s debating competition.
Many of our community programs are back up and running, with Mrs Evangelista our Community Liaison Officer looking forward to reintroducing our parent and carer workshops in the coming weeks. One that I recommend keeping an eye out for is on reporting and student reports.
Teachers have been busy writing Semester 1 reports for students and these are due to be sent home with students next week. We were pleased with the feedback we received for the new reporting format we introduced last year. The new format will now be used for all students. Please take the time to read and discuss your child’s report with them. It is a great opportunity to ask your child questions about their learning and use their learning goals as opportunities to continue supporting them at home.
Our Semester 1 Learning Conferences are scheduled for Week 10, from Monday 21 June. I encourage all parents and carers to make an appointment with your child’s teacher to discuss their achievement and progress. It is also an opportunity to ask questions about your child’s report. Information on how to make a booking will be sent home shortly.
Finally, I am pleased to advise you that, subject to final approval, the YMCA will be establishing a before and after school care service at Liverpool Public School. The service will be Monday to Friday and is planned to begin operating at the beginning of next term. Some information materials and enrolment packages are being developed by the provider which we will be sharing once received. The YMCA are planning to start taking enrolments later this term for a potential start date at the beginning of next term.
Yours Sincerely
Mr Tapuska
Parent Overview - Term 2
Have you seen these notes and when are they due?
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Pritchard
Dear Parents and Carers,
Hello to all our parents and carers. It is hard to believe that we are already more than halfway through Term 2. It has been lovely to see that students have started to begin going on excursions again. We know that the students have really missed going on excursions and really get a lot out of visiting places related to their learning.
We remind all parents and carers to keep all notes sent home for extracurricular activities and excursions, as all the information needed is on the note. Things like the cost, the date, the time, uniform requirements and when the payment is due are all listed on the note. It may be a good idea to stick the note to the fridge until after the excursion.
We also strongly recommend that you download the skoolbag app and join our Liverpool Public School Facebook page. Information is regularly posted on our social media sites and this is an easy way for you all to stay up to date and informed with activities happening within our school.

Team Leader Awards
Early Stage 1 News - Ms Vejzovic
This term kindergarten students participated in their first cross country race.
They started their day by knowing their course and where they would be running.
The boys were racing between each other while the girls had their own race.
All students had a fun filled time and received a participation award.
This is just another reminder to please make sure all students’ belongings are labelled, including their school hats, lunch boxes and water bottles. Teachers have been reminding students that when they are on the playground to put their belongings in their bags and to not leave them behind on the playground.
Kindergarten students will be receiving their first school report at the end of the term.
This is a great opportunity to book in a time with your child’s teacher during parent-teacher learning conferences and talk about your child’s progress.

Stage 1 News - Ms Dunlop & Mrs Young
It has been another busy month for the students in Stage 1. Year 1 went on an excursion to Featherdale Wildlife Park where they got to meet lots of their furry and feathery friends. Year 2 visited Sydney Zoo where they met some of their favourite animals. Both grades had a wonderful day out and gained valuable information and experiences to support their learning.
With the cooler weather upon us, some students have been wearing colored shirts under their school shirts and black tights. These are not part of our uniform and students should be wearing their full school uniform at all times.
We are now learning about Habit 4 - Think Win-Win of The Leader In Me. It’s about a positive attitude, sharing, kindness, cooperation, communication and collaboration with others. Thinking Win-Win is an attitude that says I can win and so can you. Leaders balance courage for getting what they want with consideration for what others want. Students can practise this habit at home when conflict arises with siblings and parents.

NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge
In Term 3 students from K – 6 will be participating in a 10 week sporting challenge.
The NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge (PSC) encourages all students and staff in public schools to be more active, more often by increasing their participation in sport and physical activity.
There are many benefits for physical activity including increased time on task, engagement in learning and academic achievement. Being active does not mean it’s a break from learning, but a continuation or enhancement of learning.
Students during the 10 week challenge will participate in a range of physical activities. The physical activities can be part of a class or team or as an individual. Activities may include time spent in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits during lunchtime, in school sport programs, class time, before or after school and on weekends.
During the 10 week challenge students from 3-6 will be tracking their daily/weekly physical activity using their logbooks. Students in K-2 will track their daily/weekly physical activity online as a whole class.
Students who successfully complete 10 weeks of the NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge will receive a personalised A4 certificate signed by the Premier of NSW. Award certificates reflect the average daily activity time of students over the 10 week Challenge.
SRC (Student Representative Council) Report
For the past couple of weeks the school leaders have been roaming the playground in pink vests while training S.R.C. We are committed to keeping everybody safe while ensuring that you are having fun.
Our school leaders are training the S.R.C to keep all students safe and to make sure that they are following the school expectations. Some things we are training them to do are to look for students without hats, students who are running on concrete and making sure no one is out of bounds. Our job is to keep everyone safe.

As we move into the colder months could I please remind students to label all jackets and jumpers with their names to ensure they are returned promptly when left in the playground. In addition I have noticed some students are bringing lots of packets of chips and biscuits for lunch and recess. Students and parents are encouraged to think about about healthy choices in order to stay healthy during winter.

These will be taken by the teachers to a recycling centre to convert to cash students will then decide how to spend this money to enhance in-class programs.
Happy recycling Stage 2.
