Armada Middle School

May/June 2022 Newsletter

It is hard to believe that the 2021-2022 school year is in the home stretch and the summer months are upon us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff, students, parents, and community members for their hard work and support throughout the school year. I know this year has not been easy on anyone, but everyone’s efforts helped in making this year a successful endeavor for our kids and our community! Although this will be our last newsletter for the year, I will continue to provide additional information and updates via email throughout the coming weeks. On behalf of the Armada Middle School staff, I’d like to wish all of our families a safe and relaxing summer!

Texting is one of the many ways that cell phones and the internet have made it easier for people to stay in touch and share news and ideas. Sexting means using a cell phone or internet to share sexually explicit text messages or sexual photos or videos of yourself or others. Sharing includes sending, receiving, or forwarding inappropriate content. Not only is this unsafe, it is illegal! Privacy is not guaranteed, and it may be shared by others. A sext can cause embarrassment and humiliation by accident or on purpose. The images or texts can stay online forever and can cause bullying, harassment, attract sexual predators, and lead to legal prosecution by the police. If it happens at school, your child may face consequences such as suspension or expulsion. If you or your child is sent such messages or images, please advise them: don’t respond, don’t pass it on, and do tell a trusted adult! Please discuss this important issue with your child.

You are not invading your child’s privacy by doing so. You are protecting them and the rights of others!

Good grooming and appropriate dress are an important part of our students’ lives. Our students are encouraged to take pride in their appearance. Here are some of the highlights of our dress code. The complete dress code is found on page 4 of the student handbook on the AMS website.

1. Summer wear, such as tank tops and sleeveless tops, are not permitted.

2. Skirts and shorts are to extend longer than the fingertips of the student wearing them.

3. Torn or ripped jeans are acceptable as long as there are no tears above the student’s fingertips.

4. Girls wearing tights must have a top that is fingertip long.

5. Pants must be worn at the waist.

6. Clothing shall not advertise alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, or any other offensive messages.

For some AMS students, facing responsibility is a daily challenge. If your child struggles academically and routinely states that they have no homework or that they did it all in class, please contact the teachers by phone or online through e-mail. Monitor their grades, assignments, and projects on PowerSchool, Empower, or Schoology. If you need passwords and usernames for these programs, please call the office and speak to one of the secretaries to help you get set-up. Communication between the instructors, the students, and the parents makes a can’t miss team for academic success.
