News from some of our staff
K- Students are learning school rules and routines. We have been learning about ourselves and our classmates. In Math, we have been writing and identifying numbers from 1-5.
1st- We are focusing on being respectful and responsible in school and with each other. Math-understanding 10 and more, skip counting, part whole relationships how some parts make a whole. Literacy-initial and ending sounds in words, alphabet review, building vocabulary. You can support your child at home by reading with your child daily. Making sure that get a full night’s rest.
2nd- Second graders are working on building class community. We have been learning about addition strategies and practicing asking and answering questions about a book. Our students are also working on dividing words into syllables and vowel sounds in both languages.
3rd-Third graders are getting used to the school routines in and outside the classroom, practicing procedures, and learning expectations. We are completing pre-assessments and reviewing/practicing skills learned in 2nd grade as we prepare for new concepts at grade level.
EL- Happy October! My colleague Ms. Byers and I have so enjoyed getting to know both returning and new EL students! It was wonderful to see children excited to be back in school, and hear some speaking about their personal goals for learning English. This month, our schoolwide language focus will be on describing people, places, and things.PE-We had a good start to the school year. We focused on rules and procedures as well as focusing on sportsmanship and cooperative games. As we move into October, our Kindergarten through second grade will be focusing on locomotor skills and the underhand throw. Our PE program received a grant from NFL60 for a flag football kit and curriculum. Our 3rd through 6th grade will be working on flag football skills, if the weather holds out!
DOLPHIN DASH - news from PTA
Thank you to all of the students, staff, and volunteers who made the 2019 Dolphin Dash a success! Please turn in donations and pledge sheets by October 10! We look forward to hosting crazy hair/hat day, pajama/mismatch day, otter pop treat, and have the staff play Human Hungry Hungry Hippos if the fundraising goal of $5000 is met!
Message from the principal
This has been an amazing month. I have had the opportunity to interact with many families and students, participate in community circles, walk with kinder in the Dolphin Dash and cheer on other grades. I am humbled by the warm welcomed from the Minter Bridge family and I'm looking forward to the next months as we collaborate to help each student be successful. Some of you have asked me about our assemblies. We are trying something new this year to celebrate our students. Students' will still receive but instead of passing them out during our assembly, they will be passed in their classrooms. If you have any questions about this. Please call or email me. #Dolphinpride #orgullodelfin
