Resolving Issues for Students with Multiple GaVS Courses

If a teacher receives a request from a student for an extension, the teacher will contact the DC.

The DC will check to see if the student has other GaVS courses.

If not, the DC will work with the teacher to develop plan and cc the ASI on email which explains plan.

If the student has multiple GaVS courses, the DC will contact other DCs for those courses.

DCs will determine if the student has shared the same information with all teachers.

DCs will work together to address the issue and develop plan as needed.

Then, DCs will communicate plan to teachers and cc ASI on emails.

*Please note. Student needs may vary from course to course. So, plan may vary from course to course. For example, the student may have worked ahead in one course but needs extension in another course.

D2L Tip -Embed Code Issue Work-Around

If you are having an issue with the embed code for your news announcement and are using FF you need to first disable the security and then embed the code. An easier fix is to use Google Chrome the code will embed and the video, etc. will show in the announcement. http://www.screencast.com/t/znemt1za0u

Administrative Withdrawals

Administration will send administrative withdrawal notifications to inactive home school students the week of September 30. A student with a failing average who also fails to submit an assignment for ten consecutive school days may be withdrawn by the school administration. Once a student is identified as eligible for an administrative withdrawal, the student, parent, and facilitator will be notified via email of the pending withdrawal. To prevent withdrawal, the student must submit a graded assignment within five school days of the notification of pending withdrawal. Students who are withdrawn by the school administration outside of the refund window are not eligible for a refund.

More Reminders

- Check students to ensure they are all in groups. There have been several situations this semester where zeros have been entered late in the semester because a student was not showing up within a group.

- Open the gradebook when finished grading to accurately update grades.

- Update the communication log regularly.

- Students are still enrolling in courses. Please remember to release eyeballs in the gradebook.

- If you are using a personal device to reply to student email please be sure that your email is being sent from your Georgia Virtual School Acct. and not from your personal email account. Students cannot receive external email.

Peer Tutoring Center

Check out this awesome feedback from a teacher regarding the Peer Tutoring Center. Keep those tutors coming, and if you have students that would benefit from the Tutoring Center, please recommend them for this great service!

Hi Erin!

I wanted to quickly give you a little feedback about your peer tutoring program. I spoke with my student last night. She started last week with one of your peer tutors, and I wanted to let you know that she had wonderful things to say about her tutor. She said that the tutor has been very helpful, very accessible and responsive, and she feels like the experience has already been very helpful. I thought you might want to hear the wonderful feedback that was shared with me. I don't know the actual tutor's name, but please let her know that she's doing a great job! :o)

Thanks, and have a great day!

Have a great week!
