The Decatur Red Raiders finished the 2014 regular season 7-3!
Decatur Red Raiders advance to the Playoffs!
The DHS football team played Walker High School on Friday, November 7th at an away game! The Red Raiders beat Walker High School 27 - 7!
Next Playoff Game on November 14th at Ogle Stadium!
The DHS Red Raiders will play Southside Gadsden at Ogle Stadium with kickoff at 7:00pm on Friday, November 14th! GO RAIDERS!!!!!
BP Employees help tutor at Decatur High School!

"Holey" Moley! What is that?
Students in Mrs. Coggins' Chemistry students created moles in honor of...well...all types of characters!
Mole Day is celebrated on October 23rd!
Mrs. Coggins celebrates Mole Day each year honoring the quanitity of 6.02 x 10 (23rd power). This number represents the number of particles in a MOLE.

Mrs. Coggins has been requiring her students to write a report and make a mole project each year since the early 1990's. It has become a tradition in her classroom! She enjoys this project with her students because it allows each student to be creative and create any character they wish! What a creative way to honor such a great quanitity...the MOLE! Happy Mole Day to everyone at DHS!

Report Card Conferencing helps DHS Students succeed!!!
DHS Report Card Conferencing helps students!
Counselors, Decatur Youth Services counselors, Retired Teachers and Calhoun Career Coaches come to DHS for Report Card Conferencing!
Conferences help!
This conferencing allows students an opportunity to have a caring adult review their report card and offer suggestions when a student is experiencing diffculty with a grade/s.
Students receive certificates!
Students that are passing all courses receive a "Congratulations" certificate. Students with low grades are offered suggestions as to why grades are not improving and issued a challenge for improvement with rewards to encourage each individual to succeed!

Alabama Vocal Association
Leslie Bell was selected for district one for state level competition for a $1,000 music education scholarship! She will compete against seven other district finalists from accross the state, in January, in Montgomery for the scholarship at the state music teacher's winter conference!

Student of the Month for Positive Attitude!
Congratulations to our Student of the Month finalists and winner for Positive Attitude! The following students celebrated this honor with a special lunch with Dr. Schrimsher, principal of Decatur High School!

Decatur High Dramatists had a great year at the District 3 Trumbauer Festival!
20 actors and actresses received superior ratings and will be advancing to state competition in Tory, Alabama in December
14 actors and actresses received excellent
The one act entry "Salvador Dali at the Beach" received a superior and trophies for best set (thanks to Mr. Slack and his construction class) and best costumes!
Congratulations to Mr. Dashner and all the dramatists on their accomplishments!!!!
The Power of Pink Walk was October 11th!

Veteran's Day Assembly - November 10th at Decatur High School

Mr. Albert has been coming to the DHS Veteran's Day Assembly for many years! His children are graduates of Decatur High School! We honored him on this special day for his service and he spoke to our student body! We applaud you, Mr. Albert!

We extend a very special thank you to Mr. Stutts, LCDR and graduate of the DHS 1995 class! He was an excellent speaker and offered honor and respect for Veteran's Day and its special meaning in our country!
Recognizing all branches of the military!
Thank you to all former graduates of Decatur High School that represented the branches of military and to everyone who has a family member serving or who has served in years past! We applaud and appreciate you deeply! Thank you to Mrs. Stutts and the Decatur High School faculty, staff and student body for hosting this special event!

Dr. Payne retires from Decatur City Schools!
Decatur High School hosted Dr. Payne's Retirement in the Media Center!
Dr. Payne's Retirement was attending by hundreds of friends and family members in the Media Center at DHS!
We will miss you, Dr. Payne!
Dr. Payne retired after years and years of service to Decatur City Schools as well as the community! She will be very missed by everyone!

We want to wish Dr. Payne a wonderful retirement and best of luck at her new job, as well! Dr. Payne was a Decatur High School graduate and we are very proud of her and wish her so much happiness in her retirement!

Adam won a $25 gift card from Target for having perfect attendance and being the winner of the random drawing!

Attendance increases the chances for each student to do better in school, expand their knowledge and graduate! Decatur High School is a great place to learn! We want our students to attend school every day to be as successful as possible! The students in the category had to attend for 10 days straight to be entered into the drawing!
Tia Battle, Jasmine Frye and Caroline Hughes also won a $25.00 gift card from Target!
Thank you to Mrs. LaChance for organizing these award! One student from each grade wins a drawing for a Target gift card! It is very important that each student attends school every day!
Attendance Incentive for November is coming up!
Students are signing up on chart paper outside the DHS cafeteria for Alabama or Auburn when they complete the perfect attendance requirements! At the end of the ten days, the charts will be checked for the winning team (with the most names), then those students with perfect attendance will be placed in a drawing for a $25 gift card from Target! Please come to school so you can be your best!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember! School will be closed on November 26th - 28th for Thanksgiving Holidays!
DHS Hoopfest for Basketball was a great success!
The DHS Basketball hoopfest was held on October 30th, 2014! What a fun night for all families!
Trick or Treat!
Students and younger students and kids dressed up for the DHS hoopfest and went trick or treating! FBLA was one of the DHS clubs who sponsored a trick or treat station at the Hoopfest! Thank you to FBLA and all clubs that helped!

There were games and door and prizes and lots of fun surprises at the Hoopfest!
