November 2018 Newsletter
A Message from Principal Olson
Hello Parkview Families!
The leaves have changed colors and have fallen from the trees. Our weather has certainly taken a dip towards a cooler pattern. Welcome to November!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 8th & 13th from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM. Please be sure to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher to get a progress update. It is a great time to connect with your child’s teacher on academics and social/emotional learning. We look forward to the partnership of connecting home and school. We have school pictures scheduled for those evenings as well, be sure to stop in the cafeteria to have your child’s picture taken. Also, you are invited to stop by our Scholastic Book Fair that will be held in the library. Proceeds from the book fair go toward purchasing additional books for students.
Last spring families and students we given the opportunity to take a Parent and Student Satisfaction Survey for Parkview Elementary School. I am happy to share that our results had many great identified strengths. We also looked at areas where we can improve the family and student experience. Below is our top two areas of identified strength and our two areas of growth. For the areas of growth, we have created a improvement plan to help address concerns. It is our desire to grow our scores each year as we create plans to improve.

November is a wonderful time of year to reflect and count our blessings. I am thankful for so many aspects at Parkview Elementary School. Thank you to our amazing students, staff and families. Changes in Transportation
For the safety and security of our students, any changes regarding transportation after school must be sent to school in writing. If you must call, please do so before 1:30 pm to ensure that your student and their teacher receive the message. If your child needs to ride a different bus, a bus deviation needs to be filled out and approved ahead of time. You can obtain bus deviations at school or the Chippewa Yellow Bus Co.
PBIS News
Want to know more about PBIS? Our Parkview PBIS team will have information available for families at Parent-Teacher conferences in Central Park on November 8th and 13th. Stop by the Library and chat with Mrs. Totzke if you would like to know more.
Our Parkview PBIS team would also like to introduce our coaches! Tier 1 coaches are Dawn Totzke and Abbey Rao. Tier 2 coaches are Bill Grimes and Stephanie Linzmeier. Thanks for your dedication to our staff and students!
Parkview staff and students have spent the first weeks of school focusing on learning the 5 rules from The Energy Bus. The 5th rule is to “Enjoy the Ride”, which we discussed on our Early Release day. One of our next reminders will be about a voice level stop light. This stop light will help students know when their voice should be red (completely off), yellow (a soft inside voice), or green (an outdoor voice). Have a conversation with your child about how their voice level changes depending on where they are and what is going on around them.

Attendance
Elementary school families will be contacted in the following ways (phone calls may also occur):
1. If there are 3 unexcused absences/tardies in a semester, a Start time Notification Letter will be sent. An unexcused absence is if the parent has not called in with a reason for the absence within 24 hours, or the reason for the absence does not meet the guidelines for acceptable absences as outlined by the district.
2. If a student receives 5 unexcused absences, tardies or leave early marks in a semester, then a 5 Day Truancy Letter will be sent.
3. If a student is absent more than part or all of 5+ days, a Habitual Truancy Notification Letter will be sent. The school team will complete an assessment with the student and/or parent and develop a plan with all parties involved at a meeting. A truancy referral may be initiated by the team.
4. If a student receives 10 excused absences, a Medical Concern letter will be sent.
5. The principal may meet with families after 5 days of absences (excused and/or unexcused) to better support the student and family with school attendance. *THE STATE OF WISCONSIN ALLOWS ONLY 10 DAYS PER SEMESTER OF EXCUSED ABSENCES.*
For more information about the attendance policy, please refer to the parent/student handbook linked below. These procedures may be used differently on a case by case basis (as determined by the principal, school counselor, and school social worker.
