Colonial Park Weekly News
January 16 - January 19
Principal's Note
Dear Colonial Park Families -
I hope everyone is having a relaxing long weekend! The upcoming week looks chilly, and just a reminder we do have outside arrival and recess if the temperature/windchill is 20 or above. Please send your child with a warm coat, hat and mittens or gloves...the accessories can always stay inside if they aren't needed!
Now that the new year has started, I wanted to take a moment to remind families of the important work our staff is doing this year surrounding literacy.
- Hill for Literacy, a non-profit education improvement organization, has again partnered with all three elementary schools this year. Our partnership will continue to organize and enrich our existing literacy elements and provide customized training building on the strengths and experience of our teachers.
- Many of our teachers are piloting units from Fish Tank Plus, a knowledge based ELA program grounded in the best practices for teaching and learning, built around rigorous objectives, and highly rated by EdReports for alignment to standards. Our teachers are also continuing their training and implementation of SRSD (Self-Regulated Strategy Development), a deeply evidenced based framework for teaching writing.
- WINN ("What I Need Now") Blocks - Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, students in grades K-4 work in small groups with a teacher or interventionist. Student instruction is based on data collected and analyzed every six weeks, and instruction is driven by this data. Data meetings for our next round of WINN will be held the week of February 5.
We will continue to have a Hope for Boston's Homeless box set up in our lobby, and the wish list is attached below. We are grateful to our Colonial Park community for your extraordinary generosity.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Best,
Rosa Flynn

Attendance Update From Mrs. Hahesy
If your child misses school due to an illness or injury and is seen by a medical professional, please ask them for documentation of your visit and submit it to school. This helps us to keep track of excused absences for the year. As a quick reminder, once your child reaches 5 unexcused absences, we are obligated by Massachusetts law to reach out to families. The more documentation we have ahead of time, the better. You can submit the documentation digitally by emailing khahesy@stonehamschools.org, k.lapery@stonehamschools.org, and e.faughnan@stonehamschools.org or send in hard copies with your child to school. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
