Welcome Back to School
Rancho Elementary 2019
Welcome Back!
Dear Rancho Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! We hope that you had a wonderful summer with your family! This year, we have a new school theme, “Every school has a story, welcome to ours” emphasizing that kindness matters. Our hope is that each student, staff member and parent will think about how their actions impact the bigger world and that each of us in small ways can change the world for the better. We are excited to continue to grow our kindness journey as we share our story with you.

Principal's Message
Principal's Message
I would like to touch on one of the most common requests of a parent to the administration in the first few weeks of school. This request is "I want my child's classroom changed." In order for us to support you and your student it is important for you to understand our practice. Preparing classroom rosters is a collaborative effort amongst all staff members and administrators in the building. This process begins in the spring and can take several weeks, or go well into the summer. There are many contributing factors that go into creating a classroom roster. The personality of the student and teacher, how many students are receiving exceptional services, the amount of students who are being pulled out for small group instruction, how many boys and girls are in the class, the academic levels of the students, peer relationship dynamics, and student behavior. Again, this process can take several weeks to complete.
Therefore, when you make this request, not only does it affect your child and the teacher’s classroom they're moving to, but it also affects the schedule of other students receiving services, the schedule of the support for teachers providing interventions for your child and others, the culture of the new class, and may have an effect on the teacher’s schedule itself.
In conclusion, we always suggest for parents to do a few things before requesting for their child's teacher to be changed.
1.) Meet with the teacher with an open mind to voice your concern. Be very specific.
2.) Understand that in elementary school we're preparing children to be able to adapt to multiple teachers with different personalities. This is what they’ll see in middle school. This is excellent for the social development of the child.
3.) Establish a communication plan with the teacher in regards to providing updates on the area of concern.
4.) Most importantly, understand that we have the same goal and that is for your child to receive a world class education, in a safe and nurturing environment, and for them to reach their full potential.
We are happy to meet after the teacher has been given an opportunity to understand your concerns and take action on them. Please allow two weeks for your child to adapt to his/her classroom.
Once again, welcome back to our returning Roadrunners and a warm welcome to our new Roadrunner families that have joined Rancho Elementary!! It is going to be another great year!
Sincerely,
JoeAnna Hernandez

Attendance
When we Attend, We Achieve
We encourage daily on-time attendance. However, if your child is absent please contact the attendance line at 951-695-7155 to call in the absence. While there are criteria for determining if an absence is Excused or Unexcused, please know that calling in the absence does not excuse the absence. It simply helps us identify the type of absence. It is our district policy to notify parents with attendance letters if a student continues to be absent from school.
3 Unexcused Absences~Parents will be notified with a District Attendance Letter requesting support to improve attendance
6 Unexcused Absences~ Parents will receive another Attendance Letter and the school will hold a Parent Meeting with the School Administrator and District Personnel
9 Unexcused Absences~Parents will be notified with an attendance Letter and the District Office will schedule a meeting with Parent, District Personnel and the District Attorney
School Safety
Your child’s safety is a priority at Rancho Elementary. The Temecula Valley Unified School District has equipped all schools with an electronic sign-in and sign-out system. Effective this school year, any visitor on campus will be required to sign-in and sign-out campus electronically with a Driver’s License. The electronic system will conduct a background check determining access to the campus. Approved visitors will visibly wear a clearly, printed labeled sticker while on campus. Any visitor, without a labeled sticker will be redirected to the front office to sign-in. Upon departure, visitors will also have to sign-out electronically with their labeled sticker. Please know that all TVUSD schools are required to implement this support.

Parking Lot Traffic
Before & After School
Staff members are on duty to supervise students on the blacktop beginning at 8:40 a.m. Students may not be on the grounds prior to that time, nor may they be unsupervised on the periphery of the school. Parents with students needing care before or after school may contact the RES Child Care at 695-7156. Additionally, parents may not meet with teachers prior to 8:40 unless a meeting is scheduled ahead of time with the teacher.
After School:
Students in grades 1-5 will exit through the front school gates. Students waiting for parents in front of the school will wait on the YELLOW LINE. Please remind your child to wait on the yellow line. Students will not be permitted to wait on the grass or near the office and sidewalk as after school supervision is only near the car pick-up and yellow line. Thank you in advance for supporting and developing this pick- up routine with your child.
Arrival and Departure
Parents driving students to school need to pull through the parent drop-off/pick-up area. Please be sure to pull forward along the curb before stopping to drop off students. Students are to be dropped off only onto the right hand side of the vehicle, never in the left lane. By maintaining a single lane of traffic, there is a better chance that student drop-off/pick-up will be accomplished safely and more expediently. Before your child exits the car, pull forward as far as possible. Do not leave gaps between vehicles. Have your child ready to go with all necessary items prior to entering the loop. Please respect the directions of Duty Teachers and crossing guards during drop off and pick up.
