Mrs. Newsom's Spectrum Class News!

Welcome Back!

Everything has gotten off to a great start in Spectrum Class this year! The students are amazing!

This is the electronic newsletter that I'll send out quarterly. Please feel free to contact me at newsomr@rcschoools.net with any questions or concerns you may have.

Our Theme This Year is Systems

Our yearly theme is Systems. We are doing many units that have elements of systems. We will do science, math, social studies, reading, vocabulary, and writing units throughout the year. We have already started to explore systems. We have already discussed what a system is, and how there are many types of systems. We are discussing weather systems, heat, and mechanical systems this first nine weeks. It is important that students understand how things are connected together. Your child has a binder in our classroom that will keep all of his/her work together.

Word Masters Challenge

We will be participating in the Word Masters Challenge this year! Our first official list will come out after Fall Break. Students will not only need to know word definitions, but word analogies. See below for an analogy tutorial. We will work in class to explore antonyms, categories, synonyms, actions, functions, characteristics and shades of meaning for each of our words. We will take part in 3 national quizzes! This should be challenging and exciting for us. See below for our first list.
