Blue Hills News
From the Desk of the Principal - October 21, 2021
Dear Blue Hills Families,
Next week begins Spirit Week and Homecoming! We have a number of spirit-filled activities planned including an outdoor pep rally on Friday, October 29 (weather-permitting). Many thanks to Ms. Connolly and student council for putting the week together! There are also night games happening during the week - athletic schedules and records can be found here.
The week ends with a Homecoming Dance in our cafeteria and outdoor courtyard. Tickets are on sale in the cafeteria during lunches.
Today, we have Grades 9 & 11 Parent-Teacher conferences. Afternoon conferences are remote, as you know; thank you for bearing with any technical difficulties and for your patience as you meet with teachers over Google Meet. Tonight, Grade 9 and 11 parents are welcome to meet with teachers from 6-8. Please keep conferences to 5 minutes and follow up with teachers at a later time if longer conversations are needed.
Next Tuesday, Grade 10 & 12 Parent-Teacher conferences will take place; details remain the same as above.
Have a great weekend and come out to support BHR athletics next week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Zini
Students of the Month!
Blue Hills Regional Football Coach Ed Madden Honored as New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week
CANTON — Superintendent Jill Rossetti, Principal Geoffrey Zini and Athletic Director Edward Catabia are pleased to announce that Blue Hills Regional Technical School football coach Ed Madden has been named as the sixth 2021 New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week.
As part of Coach Madden's recognition as Coach of the Week, the Blue Hills Regional Technical School's football program was presented with a $1,000 donation, on behalf of the Kraft Family and the Patriots Charitable Foundation, from Patriots Executive Director of Community Affairs and Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
“In just his first season as head coach, Coach Madden is already proving to be one of the top coaches in the league,” said Tippett in a statement from the Patriots Foundation. “Guiding the Warriors to a big win on Friday and a perfect 6-0 start to the season, Coach Madden was an easy choice for this week’s Patriots Coach of the Week honor.”
Coach Madden was named as the sixth School Coach of the Week after he received the most nominations over the weekend through the Patriots Foundation's voting system and was approved by the foundation's panel of voters.
The recognition follows Blue Hills Regional's 42-14 victory over previously-unbeaten Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School's football team on Friday, Oct. 15. This win was Blue Hills' sixth consecutive win of the season. This game extended their win streak to 13 straight victories dating back to last season, the second-longest active streak in the state.
"Coach Madden has had an extremely impressive, long-standing career with our football program, having been a player himself while attending Blue Hills before going on to join our coaching staff," Athletic Director Catabia said. "Since assuming the role of head coach, Ed has helped lead our football team through numerous victories this season. He's extremely deserving of this recognition and I look forward to the future of our program under his leadership."
Coach Madden, a Blue Hills Regional Class of 2004 graduate, served as an assistant football coach for 15 years, topping out as the offensive coordinator prior to being named as head coach ahead of the 2021 football season. He also serves as a substitute teacher at the school.
"We are extremely pleased to hear that Coach Madden is being recognized for all of his hard work and dedication to our football program," Superintendent Rossetti said. "This is an amazing accomplishment and one we are proud to celebrate alongside him and our football players."
Community members can watch Blue Hills' check presentation on the Patriots' weekly television show, “Patriots All Access,” which airs on Friday night at 7 p.m. on WBZ-TV and will be available immediately after on Patriots.com.
At the end of the fall football season, one of the weekly winners will be named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year and will receive an additional $2,000 contribution towards the school's football program.

Food Services Update
Dear Blue Hills Families:
Blue Hills Regional Technical School's Food Services Department is asking for your patience and support as we navigate new challenges. As you may be aware, we are currently faced with unprecedented shortages of food and packaging materials, massive delays or cancellations of deliveries, and employee shortages. Nationwide shortages and delays have affected availability of certain food items, leading to substitutions of menu items we’ve been able to offer regularly in the past. Supply issues are occurring throughout the United States and are especially challenging for school systems, due to the quantity of meals we serve and the nutrition standards we follow.
All of this means that we may need to make quick substitutions to our menu(s) based upon what we are able to acquire. We know that this affects students, and we are doing our best to provide updates about menu changes when possible as soon as we identify an issue.
Please know that our number one priority continues to be providing healthy, nutritious, and appetizing meals for your children. We love seeing them every day and appreciate your support and patience as we continue to offer meals at no charge for all students. That being said, our lunch production has increased from 200 lunches per day to over 700 lunches per day! The good news is that free breakfast and lunch will continue throughout the school year, so please stick with us while we face yet another challenge. Your participation helps our program stay strong, and we look forward to serving you!
Very respectfully,
Jill Rossetti
