Wrapping Up 1st Semester with a Bow!

Our First Semester is a Wrap!

I want to take this time to tell you all how awesome you have been so far in the LTN University program! I couldn't have asked for a better group of coworkers to take on this daunting task of working some of our students who need the most support academically at Nolan. Hopefully, we will begin to see them make significant gains in the areas of reading and math. The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you informed on what is needed to finalize first semester, and what's ahead of us for second semester. Please read the newsletter in its entirety, as it is important information that you will be expected to know.

Upcoming Meeting Dates

Since there are so many events going on next week to end the first semester and prepare for the holiday break, LTN University WILL BE CANCELLED next Thursday, December 17th. We will still meet on Monday, December 14th. The program is required to meet for 40 days, therefore the cancelled dates will extend our program to Thursday, March 31, 2016. Here are the upcoming meeting dates from now until the end of January:

  • Monday, December 14, 2015 (Academic Bowl rescheduled until 2016)
  • Monday, January 11, 2016 (1st Meeting Date of 2nd Semester)
  • Thursday, January 14, 2016
  • Thursday, January 21, 2016
  • Monday, January 25, 2016
  • Thursday, January 28, 2016

The rest of the meeting dates (February-March) are on the LTN University calendar in our One Drive folder.

FLP Parent Meeting

Since we have made it to the halfway point of our program, it is a requirement that we meet with the parents of the FLP program to update them on our initiatives and the progress of their students. Since time is limited and this meeting HAS to be held before the break, we have decided to schedule the meeting for next Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Media Center. Don't fret, you will not be required to attend this meeting, since you will be with your students at this time. We decided upon this date/time since many parents will be in the building on this day to attend the classroom holiday parties. We are drafting a flyer to distribute with the students on Monday to inform their parents of this meeting. Please encourage your students to give the letter to their parents so that we can have a good turn out.

1st Semester Progress Reports

The due date on the calendar for Progress Reports is December 18, 2015. They have given us some flexibility on this due date. We just need to be sure that we are getting them completed and sent home to parents. Please use your time between now and the beginning of January to complete the progress reports for the students you service in LTN University (you don't have to make one for the new students who were entered in December). We plan to send them home on Thursday, January 14th. Below is the county's timeline for these reports:

December Valedictorians of the Month!

All names of V.O.M. should have been submitted by now. On Monday, December 14th, we will present the valedictorians from November and December with a prize and certificate for their hard work. We will do this in the cafeteria before you disperse to your classrooms, so please allow your students to get their snacks and sit back down to eat them on this day. We want to spotlight these students for standing out in the crowd! Hopefully, this will motivate the rest of the students in the program to remember our core values.

Welcome 2nd Grade to FLP!

Kudos to Ms. Wright for encouraging her second grade team members to come on board to tutor their students in math to support the initiatives of the Flexible Learning Program! They will function under a separate schedule, but still be under the FLP umbrella. Since some of the LTN University classes already meet in the 2nd grade classrooms, she created the table below to work on the logistics of where classes will be held and on what day:

FLP 2016 Payroll Dates

Please refer to the table below to see when timesheets are due to Title I. I would like to start collecting them a day before so that I can have time to verify all the needed documents. As you will see, the date to submit your timesheet for December is Jan. 4th, and we will be out on break. Therefore, I am asking that we prepare the timesheets for this month by next Thursday, December 17th, so that I can submit them before we leave for the holidays!

LTN University: Saturday Edition

We recently received word that there will be two separate Saturday school programs taking place this year at Love T. Nolan:

  1. LTN University: ELP/FLP- Most underperforming students / Rank I / Beginning & Developing Learners
  2. LTN Milestones Blitz: Distinguished, Proficient, & Upper Developing Learners Mrs. Coleman will be the coordinator for this program.

We understand that everyone might not be able to commit to Saturdays. If you do, we ask that you consider continuing to work with the students of LTN University, who are some of the students with the most urgent need of extra support. The meeting dates will be confirmed by the end of this week. We will need to know of your intentions before leaving for the break so that we can plan accordingly.
