Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
March 12th-March 16th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week we will continue learning about the planets (Lesson 5) and start our last lesson on Constellations and Astronomy tools. I will pass out the unit study guide on Friday and the unit test has been moved to Friday, the 23rd. I know that's earlier than what was previously stated, but I really want to make sure we have enough time to cover all science concepts before our end of the year testing. Students were also given a take home science project today that will require them to make a 3D model of the solar system. Directions are glued into your child's Science IAN. These projects are due Monday, 26th.
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will continue our Westward Expansion unit by talking about Lewis and Clark, manifest destiny, and Zebulon Pike. I'm still deciding on a unit test date, but it's looking like we will test on March 29th. I will send a study guide home towards the end of next week.
- Mrs. Thurston's Math/ELA: In reading this week, we will continue our novel studies while learning about Greek mythology. We will also continue our TDA (Text Dependent Analysis) unit and practice finding evidence in the text. The field trips messed up our spelling groups last week so spelling tests start Tuesday-Friday this coming week. This week in math e will continue our measurement unit by learning about the Metric system. Quiz on all of metric next week! We will also discuss line plots as well.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: This week in ELA, we will continue our unit on mythology. On Wednesday, we will participate in a St. Patrick's Day-themed Socratic Seminar. We will also work on our next chapters in "Sign of the Beaver." The next novel check will be on Monday the 19th. In writing, we will work on constructing a TDA response. There is spelling this week. In math, we are going to work on a measurement project where students will get to research endangered animals. We will also introduce line plots and discuss ways to read and interpret that data.

Wednesday March 14th is Support Leukemia and Lymphoma Research Day
On Wednesday, March 14th, we would like for all FMES students and staff to bring in a $1 and wear jeans, and either a navy blue, yellow, and/or red shirt. If you have further questions about this event, please feel free to contact Kaitlyn Gantt, one of our school counselors here at FMES. Her mother has Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, so we would love to support her and the many others that have this disease. This event is not required, but we hope many will participate!
