Year End Message from Mr. Marshall

Wow! What a school year this has been for the students, staff and families of Jean Vanier. We started the school year like every other school year I have experienced over the last 30 years. Our students arrived in September excited to see their friends and meet their new teachers. The staff loved having them come and fill the building with their energy and excitement. Who would have imagined that six months later the halls would be empty of that energy and excitement and we would also be re-naming the school St. Nicholas?

Looking ahead, plans are being developed to hopefully re-open in September and this has the staff excited to once again have the children back in their classrooms. However, we realize this up-coming September will not look quite the same as last September. On August 1st, the Alberta government will announce which of the three school scenarios we will be operating under. You can then expect to receive more information with regards to school protocols that will be utilized to help ensure the health and safety of all involved. If the schools are directed to re-open to students we will need the cooperation of everyone to follow the protocols set out by the province and the school division. Also later in August your child's teacher will be contacting you and your child to personally welcome them.

In closing, I would like to take the opportunity to say good-bye and thank-you for all of the support that you have shown to the school and myself over the past 3 years. Jean Vanier/St. Nicholas is a wonderful school with amazing staff and I know that they will continue to provide an outstanding education to your children!

God Bless

Mr. G. Marshall

Thank you to all the parents that sent a picture of their child holding a heart for Mr.Marshall’s retirement gift. It turned out beautifully. It is definitely a gift that will always remind him of our wonderful JV families. We wish Mr.Marshall all the best in his new chapter and thank him for all he has done for our families. PAC NEWS

Parent Council has been busy working behind the scenes during this trying time. Despite the pandemic, our new playground preparations are still moving forward. We were unable to do the fundraising that we wanted and needed. Again our school community stepped up and donated their families portion of leftover funds to the new playground. We thank you all for that. For those families that wished to be reimbursed and were unable to pickup at the scheduled times this week, they will be held at the school until the upcoming school year.

Before schools were closed, Parent Council received a generous donation to our playground from councilor Dave Anderson. A huge thank you was in the works but this also had to wait. We look forward to sending a proper thank you soon.

We know there is much uncertainty in the months ahead. We are planning for things the best we can. Parent Council will again be offering the Davison Orchard Fundraiser in September. You can expect a form soon.
We are also planning to add the ad-mazing coupon books this year!! This is a great fundraiser with many great prizes for the kids.

Other exciting news is our name change. The next time we are all together again we will be St.Nicholas Catholic School Parent Advisory Council. Our hope is that this new school year brings back some normalcy and a lot of excitement with a fresh start.

Our AGM will hopefully be taking place in early September. If you wish to be a part of our great team or even take over a position please reach out to one of the council members. Or email us at jvpac1009@gmail.com

September will hopefully bring us all together again. We wish you all a sun-filled summer that keeps you safe and healthy.

EICS Transportation Fees Flexible Payment Plan Options - Spring 2020

We realize that it may seem confusing as to why we are sending out invoices about next September when so many things in our province are not finalized during this pandemic.

In order to start planning routes and schedules moving forward - EICS Transportation needs to have concrete numbers of students and addresses to start planning the routes and pick up/drop off stops for our EICS bus riders.

With respect to specific concerns about transportation fees and the payment plan, EICS has provided two options: 1. June 15 to December 15, or 2. September 15 to March 15. Once the plan has been set up, your child will be assigned to the bus.

As well, if you have school fees that have been credited for programming and other options for this school year that you would like applied to EICS transportation fees, you can request this by contacting the school directly. The school will confirm that all resources have been returned prior to granting the request.

Below, we have included some easy steps that parents can take to access transportation fees and specifically the payment plan. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact EICS transportation at Transportation@eics.ab.ca or by calling (780) 449-6480. We want to thank you for continued patience and understanding as we move through this together.

1. Log onto the EICS PowerSchool Portal at https://powerschool.eics.ab.ca/public/

2. In the Navigation toolbar, select “Student Fees”

3. Applicable fees for your child(ren) will show up and the pre-payment plan for Transportation will have two options: Option One which has payments from June until December and Option Two which has payments from September until March.

St. Sophia's Parish Website

With the Government of Alberta easing restrictions on religious worship, you are no longer required to register your attendance for liturgy, therefore you will not receive or require a confirmation to attend. We will offer service on Sunday at 10:00 am. We do require to record your attendance, so part of the process upon entry to the church will be to record your name and number of attendees in your party.

Please be aware that you are still required to follow COVID-19 procedures of social distancing practices and not attending if you have any of the following symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19:

  • Fever > 38 degrees C

  • New cough or worsening chronic cough

  • Sore throat or painful swallowing

  • New or worsening shortness of breath

  • Difficulty Breathing

  • Flu-like symptoms

  • Runny Nose

Entry to the church will still be coordinated by a member of our welcoming team, allowing in one party at time, and you are still required to follow the seating instructions of our welcoming member. Unfortunately at this time we still cannot allow random seating.

We also need volunteers to be part of the welcoming committee to direct members. As part of this welcoming committee you will be required to wear masks and gloves that will be provided. All that is required, is allowing members into the church, checking them in and directing them to the appropriate seating. The majority of the tasks for these volunteers is before liturgy rather than after, so you will also be required to come a half hour before the beginning of liturgy. So if you are able to volunteer, please email: register1.ssp@gmail.com and indicate which service you can help at.

If you have any questions or comments, you can email to: register1.ssp@gmail.com
