No Taxation Without Representation
Unfair Taxations
Britain had no right to impose a internal tax on the colonies without representation in the British Parliament. Its not that the taxes are to high to handle it is that we had no representation. We fear that a small tax will only lead to a larger tax in the future.
Examples of taxation
Stamp Act
This required colonist to purchase a stamp for newspapers, pamphlets, legal documents, and other paper material items. This was a truly unfair act that affected the colonist.
Navigation Act
This tax restricted certain colonial products could only be shipped within the British Empire. Colonial exports and imports could only be carried in British or colonial ships, all foreign ships were banned.
Sugar Act
This was a law passed by the British parliament, setting taxes on molasses and sugar imported by the colonist. This was an unexpected and unfair act that the British had no right to place on the colonist.
