Safety & Security Update: Schools now have two points of controlled visitor access at main entrances
USD 232 is pleased to share that all schools now have two points of controlled visitor access at main entrances. The update to our physical security is part of our continuous improvement process to help keep students safe when school is in session.
What can I expect when visiting the school?
We will always strive to make our schools warm and welcoming environments for students and families, balanced with the need to implement simple security measures.
Families are already familiar with the video/intercom door access system at each main entrance, which has been in place since October 2018.
New! Once a visitor is granted access through the main door, the interior vestibule doors will now remain locked. This creates an additional safety barrier for our school. If visitors have a need to enter the office area, then office staff can electronically grant access through the interior vestibule door.
We believe this simple addition to our safe schools protocol will help enhance our overall safety commitment to our students. And, as a reminder when thinking about school safety, if you see or hear something that concerns you, please say something so that we can investigate and involve law enforcement, if necessary.
Planning on attending the holiday party?
We want to make you aware of some safety procedures
we are putting into place to keep everyone safe!
While meeting with Rob Moser, Coordinator of Safety and Transportation for De Soto Unified School District #232, we created a safety plan to help us navigate days when we have a high number of parents entering and exiting the building during school hours.
Moving forward we will:
Maintain a single point of entry and exit for all parents/guardians in the front entry.
No classroom doors, or doors near a classroom, are used for the entry and exit of parents during events.
We will use a Google Form to create an RSVP list for parents/guardians attending parties.
We will also only allow parents/guardians to enter during this time since space is limited.
Reminder: siblings are not allowed to attend party days with their parents.
If the party ends at a time of the day were you would like to check your student(s) out for the day, you will do that in the front entry as you leave. We also ask that you get your student(s) from their classrooms instead of having them called down through the office. Just be sure you connect with your child’s teacher so they know they have left with you.
Party Times:
Kindergarten-2nd Grade: 9:00-9:30
3rd Grade-5th Grade: 11:00-11:30

Kindergarten has a Service Project they need YOUR help with!
Hello CCE Families!
We are SO excited to share with you all that Kindergarten is doing a canned food drive to help us learn about our wants versus our needs.
We have partnered with the DeSoto food pantry to help fill their shelves this winter. The kiddos are so excited to be doing this and making a real change in the community. They got a chance to zoom with the people at the food pantry and learn all about what they do and why. Since that has happened, they cannot wait to get things started and see how much our school can donate! This canned food drive will run through December 5th-16th. To help get the other grade levels to buy into the fun, we are making it into a friendly competition! Whichever grade level donates the most cans will get the grand prize of getting to watch your principal get sprayed with silly string by your teachers!
Donations will be collected every morning at the entrance of the building. There will be kindergarteners in charge of each grade level box encouraging donations!
Happy can collecting!
Lunch Reservations: UPDATE! Please Read!
We look forward to welcoming parents and guardians to our Parent Cafe Space now that the weather is getting cooler. Please use the link below to sign up.
Due to limited space, we have to limit the number of sign-ups! But, just like before, you are always welcome to take your students outside to our picnic tables in the courtyard, sit at one of our benches or tailgate at your car if there isn't space inside or if it happens to be a day we don't have indoor seating!
UPDATE:
Since it has been awhile, we ask that if you are making reservations, that you bring lunch with you. We order lunch foods based on typical numbers for hot lunch and don't usually have enough to serve extra lunches to incoming parents.
Even if you are bringing more than one person with you to eat with your student, you only need to sign up for one spot! We have room to at our tables for 4 per student sign up.
