Students in Mrs. Strole's Honors Algebra classes have been studying the three forms of quadratic functions. They have been investigating the key features of the parabola and how each equation transforms for the parabola. On Tuesday, students had a chance to apply their knowledge in Mario Day. Students had to write quadratic functions to help Mario move through the various worlds. We saw how video games had quadratics hidden in them. Students walked away at the end of the day saying the following:

  • I understand these forms so much better today!
  • This was so much fun!
  • Mrs. Strole can we finish the game at home if we didn't save the princess?

What other games have quadratics hidden in them? Some Honors Algebra students will be tackling this question in their #seeingalgebra semester2 project.

Hi, FJH! The Writing Club is proud to announce that we will be having Brian Zepka talk to us after school on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Mr. Zepka wrote the book The Temperature of Me and You. This book is a LGBTQIA novel for teens about a boy named Jordan who can control fire, a power which eventually starts spreading to his boyfriend Dylan. The two must work together to evade an evil corporation hunting down Jordan to experiment on him. The Temperature of Me and You is slated to have a Disney+ adaptation in the near future. You can order a copy of the book from the FJH Writing Club in the coming week. With your order, you will get an autograph book plate and more swag from Mr. Zepka.
