WIZARD WEEKLY
Week of April 24-28
WORD FROM THE EMERALD CITY
~Thanks to Kelly Taylor and the talent show committee for organizing our talent show auditions and practices! This is one of my favorite things we do all year! I'm excited to see all our talented Elkins kiddos when they perform in May.
~ Shout out to all the kindergarten teachers for their hard work getting everything ready for the Transportation parade on Friday! The kids were so proud, and it was so fun to watch them parade around the school!
~As students/parents begin talking about ILT opening up, make sure to advocate for our school district and public (regular public ed) schools in general. Remember to encourage them to do their research and ask tough questions!
~KIndergarten Roundup is next week on Monday! Make sure if you have any students in your class who have kindergarten age kiddos, that they know about Kindergarten Rounduup. Times will be from 3:30-6:00 pm.
~Teacher Appreciation Week is NEXT week! We can't wait to celebrate everything you do on a daily basis! Please make sure you received the handout in your boxes. I have also attached it to the Wizard Weekly email as well. Get excited for BABE's on Friday!! Yum Yum!!
Campus News
~ Muffins with Moms is May 5th. The invitations went out last week, and the RSVP forms should go out today (Tuesday). Please encourage all parents to return those forms by this Friday, so we will be sure to have enough muffins.
~STAAR testing is around the corner. As always, please communicate to parents that we will not be able to allow visitors during testing. Right now, we will not have visitors Monday-Wednesday, but that could increase if we have any students who need to make up tests on Thursday and Friday.
~ Thanks to everyone for your comments and reflections during the summatives that have taken place so far. We are all still learning our way trough the TTESS process, but I have been pleased with the self reflection and analyzing that it causes us all to do. You all are always harder on yourselves than we could ever be, so it's great to see your minds churning and reflecting on how you can even improve upon successful practices that are already in place.
~ I would like to have our vocabulary parade on Tuesday, May 30th at 2:00 pm. I don't currently see any conflicts with this; however, if there is a conflict, please let me know. This will work just as we did last year. Those who choose to participate can dress up as their favorite words and parade around the building. Those who don't participate, sit outside their classroom and are the spectators. I can't wait to see what they come up with this year!
Be Vocabulous!
Continue to discuss the vocabulary with your students! It's making a big difference!
Here is the copy of the s'more newsletter about the vocabulary program. It has all the words listed for the year, so you can plan ahead! It has each word listed and the grade level responsible. The kids really enjoyed this last year, and I think this was something I had more comments from parents about than anything! They would comment about their students knowing the meanings of words that they didn't even know. The vocabulary parade was a big hit too. Even the older kids got into it and had fun being creative and participating.
Please turn in the "Word Up" Levels sheets when you have students who display the appropriate use of the words. Obviously, the younger they are, the more "adaptation" needs to occur in order to receive the levels, but the students who received the tags last year, LOVED it!! I will put the "Word Up Level" sheet on canvas!
As a reminder, the way the "Word Up Levels" work, goes like this...
All students will start as rookies and all students will have a chance to move up as many levels as they would like. Spirit Tags (that PTA is selling) will be used for levels 2 thru 5 and when a student reaches level 2 thru 5 they will receive a spirit tag for that level from the principal.
Teachers will nominate students to move up through the levels.
