Title: D1 CIC Institute: Lab & Field Investigations

Date: Tuesday, 12/2/14

(ELAR & Math will be in the morning, and science in the afternoon)

Description: Participants will learn about the TEA guidelines to Laboratory and Field Investigations in the Science Classroom. Educators will explore comparative, descriptive, and experimental investigations and will be able to analyze how experimental design is tested on the STAAR Exam.

*Registration will be sent out with ELAR and Math to principals.

TItle: Just In Time Training for Teachers

Date: Saturday, 12/6/14

Time: 8:30 am - 11:30 am

Location: Harold Wendell Lang Sr Middle School

Description: In order to understand the TEKS/SEs and be prepared for the upcoming six-weeks, participants will collaborate to unpack those standards. They will discuss RtI and differentiation strategies for each standard or bundle of standards. All of this will be used to plan ways to scaffold instruction, increase student-engagement levels, and develop purposeful, aligned instruction (PAI), with the goal of every student achieving success in the upcoming six-weeks. *Upcoming six-weeks standards are determined by looking at the district document, the Year-at-a-Glance (YAG) which is available online so please bring your laptop if possible.* This professional development session will address differentiation for various learners including LEP, how to support SPED students in the science classroom, tiered RtI practices, and how to effectively embed the ELPS into science content.

Description: This STEM Science PD series will continue in January and February. Each session will go deeply into the the type of lab investigation (descriptive, comparative, and experimental). Participants will discuss helping students develop their process skills and will create a rubric to assess students' performance on the lab investigation.
