Mrs. Bentley's Parent Update

February 13, 2014

Student Spotlight

We are looking to showcase and spotlight our Georgia Virtual School (GaVS) students. If your child deserves recognition for something he/she has done or is participating in an activity/sport/event that we need to spotlight, please let me know.

Grades Updated

Grades have been updated for assignments that were due February 4. Please access your parent account and view your child's grade and my feedback. If you have questions, please let me know.

If your child selected a preference for completing assignments in the 14 or 12 week group, grades may not be reflected if he/she has not submitted any assignments.

Assignment Deadline - February 14, 2014

The assignment deadline for students enrolled in the 18, 14, and 16 week groups is Friday, February 14. Assignments must be submitted before 12:00 midnight. Details regarding assignment requirements are indicated in the News section on your child's home page.

I am aware that several of the public schools in Georgia have been closed due to the inclement weather we have experienced this week. If an assignment extension is granted by GaVS Administration, I will post an announcement on your child's homepage.

President's Day Holiday

Georgia Virtual School (GaVS) does not have a winter break scheduled on our school calendar. If your child is attending a public or private school and is planning on taking time off for his/her school's winter break, he/she will still be responsible for completing GaVS courses by the required assignment deadlines.

The announcement below was shared in the News section of your child's course.

GaVS Chapter of FBLA Still Accepting Members

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) student organization promotes leadership and business through meetings, guest speakers, conferences, and competitions. Its focus is to help prepare students for careers in business and business-related fields.

Georgia Virtual School (GaVS) started an online chapter of FBLA in 2012 and we are hoping the chapter will continue to grow during the 2013-2014 school year. The GaVS Chapter of FBLA will be accepting student applications through Friday, February 28. Membership requires an $11 fee. If your child is interested in participating in the GaVS Chapter of FBLA, he/she will need to complete the Interest Survey that is available on their main login page.

Doodle 4 Google

Doodle 4 Google is searching for a talented doodler whose art work will be displayed on the Google homepage on June 9, 2014. The national winner will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship. The contest theme is “If I Could Invent One Thing To Make The World A Better Place..."

Applications and contest entries can be submitted online or mailed directed to
Doodle 4 Google at P.O. Box 51006, New Berlin, WI. The entry deadline is March 20, 2014.

If your child is interested in participating in this contest, more details can be found on the Student Bulletin Board once your child accesses his/her Georgia Virtual School account.
