MMW List Server Message
April 24, 2015
Hello Maureen M. Welch Parents,
Thank you for your patience with the recent viewing of the report cards on the Home Access Center. There are still a few issues for some families, and the district is working on them. If you need a hard copy of your child’s report card, simply email your child’s teacher and one can be sent home.
With the start of the fourth marking period, there still exists a new beginning to set goals as well as reflect on past work habits and achievements. It isn’t too late in the school year for parents and their children to set academic and social/emotional goals. Related, it’s important to remind your child that there is a lot of school left in the year. In fact, some of the more challenging tasks and concepts still lie ahead as the students have many units of study remaining in all subject areas. Without giving a full effort and finishing the year strong, there could be gaps in future years. There are some fun activities that are planned at school before the end of the school year, but there is still a lot of work to complete and a lot of goals to reach. Thanks for your help in reinforcing this message with your children.
Class List Process and Parent Input
Below is a link to a letter to parents about how the staff and I will soon begin the formal process of creating class lists for the 2015-2016 school year. It is the policy of the Council Rock School District that parents’ information will be solicited each year for classroom placement. Be sure to read over the letter for more information. All requests should be placed in an email with a reason for your request and sent to me no later than next Friday, May 1st. You may email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Blood Drive at MMW
The PTO will be hosting an American Red Cross blood drive in the school gymnasium on Monday, May 11th. The drive will be from 3pm-8pm. Appointments are preferred and can be made by signing up online at www.redcrossblood.org. You will need to enter Sponsor Code: Welch for our registration table of time slots.
Did you know that every day in the United States, roughly 44,000 pints of blood are needed? Every donation may help save up to three lives. Please consider donating. Tell your family, friends and neighbors. This is not just a Welch event, this is open to the entire community. Questions? Please email the PTO at email@example.com.
PTO Pretzel Sale
There will be a PTO pretzel sale today, Friday, April 24th. Pretzels will be available for sale before school at the bus circle and car rider entrance. Pretzels cost $.50 each.
CR Elementary Report Card Survey
We will soon be approaching the end of our first year using the revised Council Rock Elementary Report Card. As previously communicated, an opportunity is being provided for parents to share their feedback. Please click on the following LINK to access a parent survey. The survey link will be open until Friday, April 24th.
Suburban Waste Services (formerly Abitibi) is the collector of our recycled paper. This company provides our school with funds based on how much is collected in our recycling bin each month. These funds help pay for many student activities around the school. Suburban Waste Services is running a contest during the month of April in which three different $500 cash prizes will be awarded to organizations that have the most creative outreach program, the highest monthly volume and the greatest improvement in volume of collected material. We’re hoping that families can help out by sending recycled paper to school or that parents can drop off their paper directly into the bin next to our school. The contest runs all during the month of April – the staff and I appreciate your support. Paper Recycling Contest
Nor’wester Readers Dog Walk & Family Fair
The Nor'wester Readers Canine Assisted Learning Program uses registered therapy dogs to enhance the educational environment so that children are motivated to work on their reading, writing and communication skills. In addition, these dogs also work with school guidance counselors and psychologists to support students with social and emotional needs. Come join the Dog Walk & Family Fair Fundraiser event at Tyler State Park on Saturday, May 2nd. You do not have to have a dog or bring a dog to join the fun! Enjoy additional features such as Carnival Games, Face Painting, Carol Wagner’s Dancing Dogs, Police K-9 Demonstrations, Pony Rides, exhibits, and much more. More information can be found at this LINK.

Maureen M. Welch E-Friday Folder
Here are the latest flyers on our school's E-Friday Folder:
I almost made it through this entire message without mentioning the current state testing that's taking place at school. We're almost done with the assessments, and the children have been so impressive with their efforts thus far. The staff and I are always so proud of them, and we appreciate that you share your wonderful children with us each day. Have a great weekend.
