Charlestown School Updates
For members of our learning community - December 7, 2018
Report Cards were sent home with students today
We assess students based on their attainment of end of year standards. Typically, very few students have met the standards this early in the school year. Our goal is for all students to meet all standards by the end of the school year.
Reading Level Chart - The Independent levels students should attain in each grade level by month.
RICAS Results Released by RIDE
While our overall percentages of students who met expectations have decreased, our scores continue to be some of the top scores in the state.
- In English Language Arts, were are the #15th highest performing RI Elementary School.
- In Mathematics, we are the 17th highest performing RI Elementary School.
We look forward to reviewing more data reports shared by RIDE in our continued quest to help all students to meet or exceed expectations on state assessments.
Individual student reports will be mailed to us by RIDE soon and will be sent home with students.

RIDE School Ratings: Use of a new Accountability System
Rhode Island will be using new formulas for rating each school, besides student performance on State Assessments.
The following additional data points will factor into overall school ratings:
- Student Chronic Absenteeism (students who miss 10% or more of school days, regardless of the reason for their absences).
- Teacher Attendance
- Suspensions
RIDE has created an Attendance Leaderboard that is updated daily based on school attendance data.
We currently have one of the lowest chronic attendance rates in the state. I appreciate parent support with having your child present at school as much as possible, and don't want children at school when they are sick!
Dreambox Math Morning Program
We will be inviting more students when we review student scores on recent assessments.
Please contact Mr. Spears if you feel that your child would benefit in participating in this program. Sessions are held daily from 8:00-8:35 in the library. Students work at their own pace on the library computers with support and guidance from Mr. Spears.
