Fall Picture Day
Pictures will be taken of students on Monday and Tuesday, August 19th - 20th during English classes. Pictures for 10th grade students will be on Monday and pictures of 9th grade students will be on Tuesday. Student IDs will be created from these photos and will be distributed later that week.
Save the Date for Fall Open House!
Jasper High School will hold Fall Open House on the evening of September 4th. Be on the lookout for more information!
Changes to Jasper Remind
The popular messaging app, Remind, has announced new limits to the number of groups and users allowed per account. The Jasper High School Remind account has been affected, and we are currently unable to send messages to the @jasperjag account that contains our student and parent subscribers. We are looking for an alternative that meets our needs and respects the privacy of all our users. Individual teacher Remind accounts appear to be unaffected; your child can check with his/her teacher if they have questions.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
In order to help make drop-off and pick-up as smooth and safe as possible, please be aware of the procedures for student drop off and pick up and understand traffic patterns. Note that cars are not allowed in the bus lane at any time.
Student Drop Off: No student should be dropped off in the front (north parking lot) of Jasper before school. This includes extra-curricular activities at any time. All students should be dropped off in the circle drive or south student parking lot. In the morning, both lanes of the circle drive are drop off lanes. Please make sure your student is aware and watches for traffic in the car and bus lanes as they cross to the student entrance. If you are dropping off in the right drop off lane, closest to the building, please watch for students crossing in front of you.
Student Pick Up: All students should be picked up in the south circle drive or south parking lot. There should not be any student being picked up in the north parking lot; this includes tennis players and all fine arts students.
Specific Directions for Circle Drive: Please be aware that the right lane of the circle drive is for pick-up only. Cars may park along the curb and move forward as cars exit the pick-up lane. The left lane of the circle drive is not a pick-up lane and should be used for exiting the circle drive only. Please do not stop and block the left lane and do not allow your student to enter your vehicle while you are in the left lane. We ask that parents pull forward as cars exit the curb so that we can ease the backup on Archgate.
Specific Directions for the South Student Parking Lot: Parents are encouraged to utilize the south student parking lot for student pick up. There are certain traffic flow specifics everyone needs to adhere to. Please see the map below for specifics. No one should use the center lane at any point. This is a bus lane only.
Standard Response Protocol
At Plano ISD, the safety and well-being of our students is always a top priority. Complementing our long-established safety and security measures, our district has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which your child has learned about in school. Please review this summary of what students learned about the four specific actions that should be performed during an emergency.
Counseling News
The Counseling Department hopes that all of our students and families had a very safe and restful summer vacation. If you need to contact the Counseling Office at any time during the year, feel free to call us at 469-752-7415.

Counselors will work with students in the counseling office to correct specific schedule issues including:
- Too few or too many courses
- Courses on schedule where credit has already been earned
- Duplicate courses on schedule
- Level changes, i.e. on-level to honors course, based on seat availability
- Received credit through credit-by-exam or eSchool and should be moved into a different class.
- Changes related to athletics or a performance-based class requiring an outside of the school day time commitment (requires notification by student to director or coach regarding intent to change schedule)
Building Access for Students
The school day is from 9:00 am to 4:15 pm. We will open our doors for students at 8:00 am. We will have staff members on duty starting at this time to ensure student and campus safety. Students who arrive at this time will be able to sit and wait in the cafeteria. We will dismiss students to their first period class at 8:45 am. If a student needs to arrive to campus prior to 8:00 am, they may wait on the benches along the carpool lane. Students who arrive early for sports or clubs will be given guidance by their coach, director, or sponsor.
All students need to exit the building no later than 4:45 pm unless under the supervision of a staff member.
Student ID Badges
Per PISD policy, all students in grades 9-12 will be required to wear school identification (ID) cards while on school grounds, at after-school activities, and while aboard District school buses. Student IDs and lanyards will be distributed the week of school picture day. It is the expectation that ID cards are visible and worn around the neck on a lanyard. Consequences will be given for not wearing a student ID in the prescribed manner. Lost or damaged student ID cards will be replaced for a fee of $10. We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue to implement this safety & security initiative!
Drop-Off Table, Deliveries, and Federal Food Guidelines
We would like to make everyone aware that the drop-off table located at the Jasper front doors is an unsupervised area. Jasper's staff does not have the capacity to supervise the table or monitor items that become missing. We strongly suggest parents that want to bring food to their students wait and hand deliver the food to their student. If not, there are other options the student can utilize like bringing their lunch or purchasing a lunch from our school cafeteria.
In order to avoid disrupting classes, flowers, balloons, food, and gifts cannot be accepted during the school day (this includes UberEats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, etc.). All vendors will be turned away. No vendor should attempt to drop food off in the south student entry way. In addition, these items cannot be carried with the students to class. Personal messages are not delivered to students during the instructional day.
Per Federal Nutritional Guidelines, food that is brought to school cannot be shared with other students. Parents cannot bring extra drinks and food for anyone other than their student. This applies even on birthdays and special occasions.
Student Insurance
Student insurance is available for purchase through Markel Insurance Company. Parents may enroll students in the voluntary student accident insurance using the online enrollment process. Markel has dedicated a secure enrollment website at http://markel.sevencorners.com. Please see the documents below for additional details.

Unpaid Meal Charge Guideline
Effective July 1, 2019
Notification for Parents: The goal of Plano ISD’s school breakfast and lunch program is to provide healthy meals to children during the school day. In order to serve healthy, high-quality meals to all children, we must make sure we are financially secure. Since parents play a key role in this effort, we want to share the district’s Unpaid Meal Charge Guideline.
Students with Unpaid Meal Charges: Families are expected to provide a breakfast or lunch or provide their child with cash or money deposited in their child’s meal account to purchase school meals. Meal account balances may be viewed by parents online via PayPAMS (https://paypams.com/HomePage.aspx). Parents/guardian may make payments in students’ account through the online payment system or in person at the campus site.
- For online payments go to: https://paypams.com/HomePage.aspx
- To access the Free and Reduced Price Meal Application go to: https://fans.pisd.edu/fma/
- For questions or inquiries about payment plans, contact the food and nutritional services manager at the campus site.
- Community resources are available to assist families online at: https://www.pisd.edu/cms/lib/TX02215173/Centricity/Domain/307/Community_Resources2017.pdf
Secondary Guideline:
A student is allowed up to two reimbursable breakfast meal charges and two reimbursable lunch meal charges (where served). Once a student incurs these charges communication to the parents/guardian will be initiated.
- An automated phone message is sent to parents/guardian weekly when a student has a debt of $5.00 or more.
- An email notification is sent to parents/guardian weekly when a student has a debt of $5.00 or more.
- An email notification is sent to parents/guardian two times per year (December/April) when a student has a debt of $4.99 or less.
Students with a negative balance will not be allowed to charge pre-packaged a la carte snack and beverage items. These items will be removed from a student’s tray.
Once a student has incurred a debt of $15.00 or more, an alternate meal will be provided at $2.50. An alternate meal will contain a cheese sandwich, fruit and/or vegetable servings, and choice of milk.

Jasper PTSA Announcements
Join PTSA Today!
Did you know PTSA gets awards too? Become a Member and register your student too to help Jasper PTSA win the membership awards this fall.
Why join PTA? Since we don’t hold traditional fundraisers at Jasper, our membership dollars are key to supporting all the wonderful activities and services offered each year. Membership dollars help fund classroom educational supplies wish list items, student programs, teacher conference registrations, parent education programs, teacher appreciation luncheons, and special amenities throughout the building. This year, we would like to see 100% parent participation in membership. This may be a lofty goal, but everyone can benefit from being a PTA member. Sign up at www.jasperptsa.org

Jasper Club and Booster Announcements
Better Scores = Better Colleges
Thinking about taking the SAT or ACT? Don't practice on the real thing!
The Jasper Band Boosters and Princeton Review are sponsoring practice SAT, ACT, and PSAT tests at Jasper High School on Saturday, September 7th, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The tests are open to all students. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who want that extra edge before the test. Check-in begins at 8:30 am; students are encouraged to arrive at Jasper High School at least 10-15 minutes in advance. Please bring a calculator, pencils, and erasers.
The SAT and ACT generally test the same types of content. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions and merit-based scholarships. The biggest differences between the tests are that the ACT has a Science Test, and there’s one SAT Math Section for which you cannot use a calculator.
The costs for the practice tests are as follows:
- Practice SAT $15
- Practice ACT $15
- Practice PSAT $10 - Grade-appropriate for 8th and 9th graders and establishes a baseline measurement for students as they enter high school.
Save the date for the follow-up Test Review Session on Monday, September 23rd, from 6:30-8:30pm in Room 1100. Students are encouraged to attend for feedback on the test.
