What's Happening?
We are in the process of changing our emails within the schools system. Our new emails are active now. My new email is jennifer.b.lee@gcpsk12.org. I have done a test email and I did receive it. You can still send emails through the old address, however as the change over continues, I may begin not receiving them. If you send an email to the old address and you don't here from me within 24 hours, please use the new address. Thanks!

In this week's Friday Folder:
Fifth Grade Events on Mypaymentsplus
1. Field Trip to Fox Theater (March 9th)
2. Field Trip to the GA Aquarium (May 14th)
3. Finale and t-shirt order
More info on the two field trips are coming soon. You can go ahead and complete the information for both on mypaymentsplus. You do not have to wait for the permission slips. We will be taking two chaperones per class to the Fox Theater in March. If you are interested in joining us, please let me know. Due to space at the Fox, we will not be able to have more than two parents per class.
Please take care of the t-shirt order first. We would like to have these printed and ready for our March trip.

What are we learning?
Math (Mrs. Lee's Class): Students did a great job on their dividing fractions and whole numbers test! We are moving on to measurement. Good news! Students do not have to memorize the base conversions such as 1 ft = 12 in. They will always have these available to use. We will be learning how to convert measurements within a common measurement system. We will spend time using both metric and customary measures.
Science (Mrs. Lee's Class): We are continuing our unit on constructive and destructive forces. Students have started designing a model to show how a specific land form is created with a group of students. They are doing a great job problem solving as they go to make their model work. They will receive their study guide this week for this part of the unit. We will have our test early next week.
Social Studies: We are finishing up with the Holocaust this week. Students have been very moved by this time in history. I encourage you to discuss this event with your child at home. A time to reflect and just talk about how they feel is a great thing! We will be completing our study guide. The test is scheduled for Friday.
Writing/Reading: We are focusing on opinion reading and writing. Students have chosen a "hot topic" to learn about. I encourage students to research at home as well as read the articles I provide. Since these are current topics, the research might need to be Google based. Please monitor your child as they research their topic further. Students will be writing their final copy of their Milk Debate writing this week.
