Happenings in Room 231!

Reader's Workshop- This week our anchor text was an informational text called Animal Groups. We discussed comparing and contrasting. We used big Venn diagrams (hula hoops) to compare and contrast our just right reading bags with a partner! We also read the play "Animal Picnics." We discussed what stage directions are and then we started to write our own plays! The students are having so much fun with this and next week they will use the supplies sent in to create their characters for their play.

Writer's Workshop- Our Mem Fox stories are done! The students are so excited to read them in Author Chair! We started brainstorming for our winter writing and will finish that up soon!

Math- We have started chapter 6 which discusses skip counting and place value. The students looked at the 100's board, filled in missing numbers, and learned where the tens and ones columns are in a two-digit number.

Science/Social Studies- This week in science the students explored with air. They worked with partners and used syringes and flexible tubes to see what they could find out about air. They had a lot of fun trying to figure out the "air war." Ask them about it!
