Mrs. King's 2nd Grade Class!

February 19, 2016

Seeds!!!

This week, we began learning about cycles. We learned that many things in our everyday world happens in a cycle! We are also learning that plants fit in well with this! As you are cooking dinner this week, please spend a little time with your kids showing them the seeds that come in the foods we eat. I have invited the class to bring in seeds from the foods they eat. We'll observe them, discuss the importance of them, and see if any might be worth growing here at TCE! Feel free to send any in! Thanks for your help with this!!!

Recyclable items!

Over the last few months of school, we will be collecting all different types of recyclable items. Feel free to send in anything from empty plastic containers, old boxes, or any other material students might want to make things out of! Thanks in advance for your help! We will be using them for an upcoming project, but also to help us learn more about measurement closer to the end of the year!

Read Across America Day!

Wednesday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day! We will use this day to celebrate our love for reading! I'd love to have any parents in to read to our class that can make it! If this is something you are interested in participating in, please email me with a preferred time for that day. Then I'll see what I can work out! This day I also invite students to bring in any books from home that they might enjoy reading. A reading buddy is fine as well, as long as it fits in your child's back pack! Looking forward to spending the day reading!

Food 4 Souls Donation Drive & Random Acts of Kindness!

February 17th was Random Acts of Kindness Day. We celebrated this week by writing letters and notes to past teachers, friends, and family to remind them of how much they mean to us! We are also celebrating this special day by continuing to collect donations for Food 4 Souls (www.food4souls.org). One of our amazing second grade student's parents help to run this organization. Food 4 Souls helps to gather items for the homeless among many other things! Starting Monday, we will be collecting men's insulated gloves, coats, hooded sweatshirts, blankets, batteries (AAA and D batteries are needed the most), men's thermals, flashlights, lanterns, tents, sleeping bags, and more. Your child is welcome to bring these items in (new or used) through Monday, February 29th. We thank you for your support!!
