Curriculum Corner: Holiday Edition
From the Desk of MCVSD's Director of Curriculum, Mrs. Harmon
The Curriculum Coaches Have Been Busy!!
Over the last few months, the curriculum coaches have been busy, facilitating feedback sessions, organizing release time and leading department meetings.
Ms. Lane's math team has been at the forefront of the curriculum redesign process! Now, they are moving from designing curriculum to creating a common assessment framework and using Linkit and its data reports to have critical conversations about improving instruction. On December 2, the Geometry team met to come to a consensus about priority standards to assess on the final exam, as well as review data reports from the semesterized schools' midterm.
Ms. Britto brought every World Language instructor together on Dec. 15th to vertically align their curriculum to discuss what students are responsible for at each grade level. Each grade level group summarized the content and then shared out.
Mr. Muly's CTE teachers have been out of the shop, working on end of course assessments and discussing criteria for skills-based rubrics. Most recently, the floriculture team, health occupations duo and auto technology instructors updated their curriculum units and maps.
On Dec. 2nd, I invited the health and fitness teachers to CHS to review sample textbooks, conduct a curriculum crosswalk and discuss the expectations for our Option II fitness courses.
World Language Teachers Discuss Priority Objectives
On Dec. 15th all World Language instructors met at AAHS to link lessons, skills and assessments together as a holistic experience. They combed through the standards and determined where students are coming from, where the gaps are and where they need to be at the end of the year.
MCVSD Hosts a Curriculum Roundtable for Health Occ Teachers
Diversity Coaches Bring MCVSD's Diversity PLC Together
More than 30 students and teachers from across the district gathered at BTHS before Thanksgiving break to discuss topics concerning diversity and inclusion.
The event featured guest speaker Chris Singleton, a former minor league baseball player who shared a message of understanding, learning and resilience. The inspiration behind his story was the murder of his mother, Rev. Sharonda Singleton, who was among nine African American parishioners slain by a white supremacist at the Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, S.C.
