Principal's Update

Wow - where does the time go? Monday officially marks the end of the first grading period. With 9 weeks under our belt, routines have been established and our "new normal" is just normal now.

I want to take a minute to say goodbye to any of our families who are moving to an in-person model and hello to all of our new virtual families. Monday is the big day and we hope everyone continues seeing success in their new placements.

I also want to take a minute to wish one of our paras a happy retirement. Mrs. Werkmeister will officially retire after school on Monday. It has been a pleasure working with her these last nine weeks and we wish her nothing but the very best as she moves into the next stage of her life.

Eden Hall parents - Please sign up for a time slot to have your child's picture taken here.

K-3 parents - the deadline to email your Halloween costume (or favorite fall) photos of your child to your homeroom parent is TODAY. Please be sure to send those over so your child can be included in our virtual parade. Videos will be sent to all families next week. If you have any questions, please reach out to the homeroom coordinator or your child's teacher.

This upcoming week is sure to be fun. First, please remember there is no school on Friday. Teachers will be involved in professional development throughout the morning and have time to prepare upcoming lessons or hold conferences in the afternoon. Conferences will continue to occur the following Monday and Tuesday while the students rest, relax, and rejuvenate from all of their hard Halloween work.

Be sure to read below to see our daily spirit themes as we enter into Red Ribbon Week. It promises to be a blast - ending with wearing our Halloween costumes to school on Thursday. I can't wait to see what everyone wears. Please remember that all costumes should adhere to the following rules: no masks, no weapons, and nothing that will cause a distraction. That is a lot of "no's" but there is one big YES - FUN!

Lots of new information is included this week, please let me know if you have any questions.

I look forward to a great week!

Happy Friday!

5th/6th Grade Material Pickup

Attention all fifth and sixth-grade students: Mrs. Tronetti and Mr. Boyd have been hard at work putting together art kits for you to use at home during your class. These will be available for pick up on Monday, November 2. For physical distancing purposes, please try to stick to the schedule below. If you are unavailable at your designated time, feel free to arrive during another time slot.

Materials will be housed in the auditorium so please plan on parking in the side lot.

November 2:

Zimmerman - 8:00-9:30

Turner - 9:00-10:30

Woods - 10:00-11:30

Mahsoob - 11:00-12:30

Wenzel - 12:00-1:30

Farmer - 1:00-2:30

5th grade students will be picking up additional materials for ELA.

6th grade current and compact/extended math students will also pick up their new math books.

Student Code of Conduct

All students are required to sign the PR Code of Conduct. This can be found in the Community Web Portal. The students must be signed in to their account (not the parent account). Here are the steps one homeroom parent used to do this in K-3.

  • I used my child's clever badge and signed on to his school Chromebook.
  • On the main landing page, I clicked on his Google Calendar.
  • Inside of the calendar, I was able to select Gmail from the 9 dot "waffle" icon in the top right corner, which was automatically signed in to his account.
  • Once I had access to my child's email account, I scrolled through to find an email sent to him on August 19th with his Sapphire credentials.
  • I stayed on his computer and went back to the main page that opened when I used his clever badge.
  • In the white menu at the top, there is a link to log on to the Sapphire Community Portal.
  • After signing in, The Code of Conduct was the first thing that popped up, so we were able to review and sign it from his account.

Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.

Next week is officially Red Ribbon Week. In order to promote a drug-free lifestyle, we are going to have the following spirit days:

Monday - Rally in Red Against Drugs - wear red to kick off the week

Tuesday - Drugs Can't Find Me! - wear camo

Wednesday - Team Up Against Drugs - wear your favorite team jersey

Thursday - Say Boo to Drugs - Wear your Halloween costume

Take a picture of your child holding up a red ribbon and post it to Twitter with the hashtags #PRvirtual and #LivingDrugFree - don't forget to tag me @MrsGiranEHUE

K-3 Specials Update

With the first quarter almost complete (ends on Monday), we have been working closely with the specials teachers to determine our approach for the second quarter. I will provide more specifics next week, but here is a summary of what we are thinking:

  • Library, Computers, and Phys Ed will remain the same - students will access the menu of options. The Google Form will still be used to submit the activities.
  • Art and Music teachers will be inviting all students to a Google Classroom. The activities will be housed here. Students will be able to access the materials, directions, and other supplementals as well as turn in their work through the Google Classroom.
  • Students should be completing one special area activity each week as opposed to each month. This more closely aligns to what they are doing in school and will allow the students to remain on pace with the curriculum.

More details will be provided next Friday as well as communicated through your classroom teacher. This new way will begin on Wednesday, November 4.

Watch your BACK(ground)

Just a friendly reminder to be cognizant of what is going on in your child's background. The cameras and speakers can easily pick up extraneous audio as well as movement. We want to limit as many distractions for the students as possible and ensure everything that is seen on the cameras is school appropriate.

School Pictures

If you are interested in having your child's school picture taken, please see the schedule below. If you are unable to attend during these times, makeups will be scheduled at a future date.

RES - October 14 - 4:15-6:00 (gym)

WES - October 21 and 22 - 8:00-9:00 or 2:00-3:00 (cafeteria)

HES - October 27 and 28 - 7:30-9:00 and 4:30-6:00 (cafeteria)

EHUE - October 27 and 28 - 2:00-3:00 and 3:45-6:00 (LGA)

If you are not interested in getting a school picture, but would like your child to be in the yearbook, you will be able to submit a headshot to the PTO. Please take a headshot against a white or gray background and email it to your school's yearbook coordinator.

Richland PTO News

The Richland PTO fundraiser is now underway:

The Believe Kids Fundraiser for Richland Elementary kicks off Friday, October 23rd and runs through November 3rd. Parents can browse the selection at www.shopfund.com and create an account. Next, the system will prompt you to enter your state and school along with the student(s) information and you are ready to start your holiday shopping!

6th-grade Meet-Up
