November Edition 1
Mission Statement
Wood Elementary is a place where all children are important, learning is engaging, and dreams are encouraged.
Vision Statement
Wood Elementary is LEADING and LEARNING.
Principal's Perspective
October has been an amazing month for us here at Wood Elementary! Our 2nd grade students gave their best effort during the Iowa/CogAT testing, and we’re so proud of their hard work. Camp Leopold brought joy and learning to our 4th & 5th grade students, and our Leading and Learning Drug Free Spirit Week was a fantastic success! I hope you have been able to see the pictures that have been posted on Dojo and Facebook.
Our students are making strides in achieving our DreamBox goals, with the aim of completing 5 lessons each week. I have enjoyed watching students work hard on the OWLS Essentials! Several students have earned tokens to choose a book from our Book Vending Machine for their efforts.
One question we often receive is, “How can we help our child at home?” The answer is simple: read with your child. Reading together is one of the most effective ways to support academic success. Don’t forget to ask questions to check their understanding and make predictions about what happens next in the story. It’s a wonderful bonding experience and a great way to nurture young readers.
In addition, be on the lookout for opportunities to engage with math in daily life. Counting, practicing addition subtractions, and multiplication facts, and estimating the cost of groceries while shopping are fun and practical ways to reinforce math skills.
November is brimming with exciting events! We’ll be honoring our veterans on November 10th, and our Fall Festival of Learning will take place on November 16th. We can’t wait to celebrate these special moments with our NeighborWood community.
Thank you for your continuous support. It’s a privilege to serve the NeighborWood, and we’re looking forward to all that November has in store!
