Vol. 13 - Taking Center Stage!
PLCs & Walkthroughs & SLT Oh My!
At our last PLC meeting, you should have received data on PR1 D & F rates by PLC. Each teacher should have also received their individual D & F reports for each of the students enrolled in their courses. Due to the current budget situation our district is facing, I anticipate not being able to offer any more credit recovery sessions this year and I also anticipate summer school to be affected. With the impact to our Title I Carry Over and LCFF Intervention budgets, we will also need to revisit the way we provide after school and Saturday academic interventions.
I am a strong believer that the best intervention is a "first best lesson". As we continue to focus on the Sweetwater Essential Elements of Effective First Instruction (SE3FI), I ask PLCs to begin to focus on developing innovative ways to provide interventions within the school day. I understand that not all students will be able to master all the essential standards or competencies needed to pass a course, and we will still need to provide some type of grade/credit recovery option for these students. Discussions are ongoing among your colleagues about what this looks like. Several schools have implemented innovative programs that provide these opportunities for our students such as Eastlake Middle School's "Flip Flop Fridays" and National City Middle's "I" Grade Model. I look forward to collaborating with you in the best interest of our students.
Our common focus is to continue to work as a school to implement the Sweetwater Essential Elements of Effective First Instruction (SE3FI), leading to a reduced need for out-of-class interventions, reduced D & F rates and reduced number of students needing grade/credit recovery.
