Relaxed and Recharged...

We hope everyone is relaxed and recharged from the Thanksgiving Holiday break. Hopefully, you took a few minutes to count your blessings are remember truly how fortunate we are to have what we have and live where we live. Thanksgiving is an especially good time for this reflection, but truthfully, I continue to read about the people who are most satisfied with their lives and how they do this reflection on a consistent basis.

It was wonderful to see so many parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences partnering with us to support your child's growth and development. I especially loved to see so many students there either participating in the conferences or taking the time to work on art projects in the hallways or art room. Our school is a hub in the community and we love having you visit us.

Rescheduled Parent Education Presentation-The Technology Your Children Are Using-Rescheduled to Thursday, December 13 at 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Come to hear and ask about the technology and apps your children are using in this low-key, informative sessions led by Principal Sonntag. We'll discuss apps like Youtube, Snapchat, Instagram, Musically, and much more! In addition, some parental advice from one parent to another will be shared about how best to manage and stay on top of what your children are doing online.

Metra Safety Poster and Essay Contest

Metra Safety Poster and Essay Contest - For the 13th straight year, Metra asked the region's students to illustrate through posters or essays the importance of safe behaviors near railroad tracks and rail crossings. The theme for the 2018-2019 school year: “Use Your Senses" emphasizes the importance of being aware and using all your senses -- including common sense -- when around trains and railroad tracks. The contest is open to all students in grades K through 12 living or attending school in Metra’s six-county service area: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will. The deadline for all entries is Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. Information on the winners of the 2017-2018 contest can be found here.

Tiger Tipline

While it is always best to talk directly to a staff member, we understand that sometimes this can be uncomfortable or difficult for students or parents. At Pleasantdale Middle School, we offer the Tiger Tipline as an anonymous tool for reporting unsafe, uncomfortable, or unkind behaviors and situations. We explicitly teach the students that if they ever see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or is unkind, either online or in person, they should tell a “trusted adult” which could be parents, school personnel, or other adults in their lives. The Tiger Tipline can be accessed here and we will post the link in Schoology and create a shortcut to the link on the student devices for easy access.

Dates for the Year

If you are like me, you want to know the dates for the year as far in advance as possible. As long as you understand that something may change due to unforeseen circumstances, I’d like to provide you access to the dates we’ve planned for the year (many of which are in the paper calendar you received in the mail). To access the middle school calendar dates, please click here.
