Spirit Week 2/6-2/10
A Message from the Principal
Dear Jaguar Families,
Principal's List-We are so proud of our students who made Principal's List in the second quarter. We had a total of 95 students who made the list. Those students were recognized during the last week of January.
Spelling Bee-Congratulations go out to our Wigwam Creek Spelling Bee winners. The following students represented Wigwam at the district Spelling Bee:
- 6th Grade: Zara Killinger, Nathan Lowe and Zoe Perez
- 7th Grade: Elena Tran, Aly Hager and Ashton Russel
- 8th Grade: Grant Borges, Maleena Asmar and Shawn Demby
Jaguar Athletes-Another round of applause for all of our Winter Athletes:
- 6/7th Grade Girls' Basketball made it to the semifinals and fought hard against Madison! We are so proud of their hard work and determination.
- 8th Grade Boys' Basketball made it to playoffs and finished their season with high energy!
- Finally, our 6/7th-Grade Boys' Basketball team finished the season as the 22/23 Division Champions. They led us to victory at the championship game on Wednesday, February 1st, against our district rivals Western Sky. We had over 25 staff members present, our cheer team proudly cheered them on along the sidelines, and several students rallied in the stands. It was truly great to see our school spirit so alive and well!
- Thank you to our coaches, Coach Spicer, Coach Lee, Coach Prusynski, and Coach Saunders for their dedication to our students. Your hard work and effort are appreciated!
- Thank you to Mr. Corella and Coach Hokaj for supervising our games and running the scoreboard!
WAY TO GO JAGUARS!
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices-Please remind your students of the following rule:
- Cell phones and electronic devices are to remain silenced and put away during the school day. This includes AirPods.
- We are seeing a significant increase in the use of electronic devices during instruction. This interferes with the learning environment of all students. The use of electronic devices throughout the school day is strictly prohibited. If your child needs to contact a family member they can do so with permission from an adult.
- We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen devices.
Perfect Attendance-Students who had perfect attendance during the month of January have earned an additional 15-minute recess to be awarded during the week of February 6th; and their names will be entered into a prize raffle for miscellaneous prizes awarded throughout the month. A final raffle prize will be drawn in May for a Huffy bicycle donated by Hacienda Del Rey. Congratulations to all of our January winners.
Attendance Reminders-Communication about attendance letters came out during the week of January 16th. Please remember, if there is a concern with your child's attendance, in addition to the letter, you will receive a phone call from our Assistant Principal, Ms. McQuarrie. The attendance letters are printed based on a threshold of absences set by the state and district. We are calling families with excessive absences (over 20) to offer support and guidance.
Thank you and have a great month.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Tassin and the Wigwam Creek Staff
Spring Sports Tryouts
Please see the calendar below for spring tryouts. Tryouts begin after teachers complete their after-school duty which is usually between 4 pm and 4:15 pm. All athletes can wait outside the gym for the coaches to let them into the gym to change.
It is crucial that you make arrangements for transportation prior to tryout day.
Thank you for your cooperation with this. Good luck to all students!
Jaguar Booster Club
The Booster Club is still looking for volunteers to help with upcoming events. Please email our JBC President, Ms. Blaylark, or our Treasurer, Ms. Ngeno, if you are interested in helping. Their emails are presidentjbc@gmail.com and jboostertreasurer@gmail.com.
