5th Grade OLSAT
On Thursday, February 25th, the remote 5th grade students will be taking the Otis-Lennon Ability Test (OLSAT). For remote students, a Self-Certification Form will need to be completed prior to dropping your child off at the building. On Friday, February 26th, the in-person 5th grade students will be taking the OLSAT. The OLSAT is a widely used measure of abstract thinking and reasoning ability. Verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal skills are tested.
The test is administered in a group setting, and will take approximately sixty minutes. Teachers use the test results to help assess students’ learning strengths, predict success in school, and assist in the identification process of academically talented students.
You can help your child be prepared for this test in the following ways:
Help your child feel confident about taking the test. Let your child know that you are confident of his/her ability.
Have your child go to bed at a reasonable time to ensure a good night’s sleep.
Make sure your child eats breakfast.
Be sure your child is on time for school each morning.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school. Thanks for all you do to support our students!

Please come if you already play, as there won’t be any formal teaching of the games in order to learn them, only learn as you play! For Off Road Outlaw, the captain says you won’t be able to bring trailers into the maps because it causes a lag in the game. Log on to the PE Zoom link to play. Calling all Husmann Elementary School families!!!
We need YOUR help! Our yearbook organizer, Emily Feeney, has been working hard to ensure our kids have a great yearbook filled with as many memories as possible. As crazy and different as this year has been, it’s a year our children will always remember.
This is the year for you to submit pictures of YOUR kiddo for the yearbook. Maybe you missed picture day. Maybe you celebrated one of our “National Days” in a fun and unique way. Maybe you want to share your super cool Halloween costume for your child’s friends to always remember. Maybe your student has a stellar way of participating in e-learning or has a really neat set up for learning. Maybe you captured some creative pictures of your child carving their pumpkin or creating their gingerbread house. Whatever it is, we’d love for you to share it with us so that we can use it in the yearbook.
Please submit your photos to HusmannPtoPhotos@gmail.com by Sunday, February 28, 2021.

Are you looking to support your local school or non-profit organization? What could be easier than earning money by SHOPPING from your own home? Simply shop through Amazon.com/smile! 5Essentials Survey
Each year, students, staff, and parents have an opportunity to participate in the statewide Illinois 5Essentials survey. The survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of Illinois schools from the student, staff, and parent perspective.
The 5Essentials surveys for both parents and students (4th-12th grades) can be accessed at https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. The survey will be open through April 2, 2021.
Parent Survey: As a parent, this survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. The survey is available in English and Spanish and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. One survey may be completed and submitted for each child by either parent. Parent identities and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will not be connected to you or your child.
Student Survey: The 5 Essentials survey is open to students in 4th-12th grades and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. This year, we would like 4th through 8th graders to take the survey from home (outside the school day) so as not to interfere with instruction. If you have a 4th-8th grader, please ask your child to complete the survey. Students are required to log in with their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students may know their student ID or it can be found by logging into ParentVue.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials survey, please visit https://impactsurveyshelp.force.com/s/article/illinois-5essentials-faqsntials-faqs
If you have any technical difficulties, questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.
