Connections with English Literature and Writing with Mrs. Elliott and Miss Sherwood
April is not only here but half over. Wow! The end of May is just around the corner.
Ms. Sherwood finished teaching about poetry before state testing last week; students have also completed their poetry rough drafts. Peer editing starts this week as well as crafting ideas for book compilation.
April 30 is Ms. Sherwood’s last day. I have appreciated her partnership this year. I hope we all take some time in the next two weeks to send her our best wishes and to congratulate her on graduating from SVSU and beginning her career in the Detroit area.
Most students are doing a great job on their independent reading assignments: most are on their fourth or fifth book. I am so proud of them. KEEP READING!
Mathematics and Economics with Mr. Christensen
Our math classes are approaching our final units of study. Students will not have a cumulative final exam but will need to finish strong. We are also down to two Fridays for each class and so the last chances for extra support. If your daughter or son needs to make up work, make sure they are scheduling a time with me.
Economics class is now exploring the role of government on a large scale. How does our money supply and regulation affect the economy as a whole and what can or should be done during economic downturns? One final study of the inventions that made other inventions possible and how ideas themselves are conceived and encouraged.
Science Methods with Mr. Conklin
This week we are wrapping up our science history unit. As we leave April and head into May students are going to revisit concepts concerning molecular shape and how that shape affects chemical behavior. Three dimensional shape is a leading factor in how a molecule acts in nature and where it derives its chemical and many physical properties. Following the theme of the previous unit students will be working with modeling to help explain these molecular properties. As always the best place to learn these concepts is in the lab. May will involve a pretty intensive lab routine to bring lecture to life.

Scholarships
Seniors, please start looking into scholarship opportunities over the summer. Research the scholarship opportunities at the college(s) you are thinking of applying to in the Fall. Also, check local community agencies, churches and organizations for scholarship opportunities. We will look more into this together in the Fall, but the summer is a great time to get started.
